    Forget all others

There is not enough space to write all the praises for this book. Of all the books we have on the big island of Hawaii this is the ONLY one to have. The writers have a great sense of humor and it shows in their writting style. For the most part it is user friendly. We were rather skeptical about restaurants reviewed but after reviewing our results, we recognized that they were right on. Descriptions regarding historic sites, topography, and beaches again, they could not have been more accurate. I am throwing away all my other Hawaii books.

This is the only Guidebook you'll need!

I loved this guidebook. It directed us around the island, allowing us to see as much as we could in 3 quick days. It was like having a trusted travel companion with you who was very familiar and had great suggestions. This is really the only guidebook you'll need on the Big Island. I wish I had bought the Maui book too.

    Worth it's weight in Gold!!

We went to Hawaii on our belated honeymoon. Prior to going I bought three of these same books in this series, one for Hawaii, one for Maui, and one for Kauai. And let me tell you they were worth their weight in GOLD!!! We saw so many things that were off of the beaten track it was amazing! Just for an example we had several waterfalls all to ourselves, nobody even knew they were there, unless of course they also had this book! Not only that but their reviews of the hotels and all activities in and around the Islands, and their website was absolutely fantastic! If you are planning on going to the Islands of Hawaii, DEFINITELY GET THIS BOOK!!

You only need one book when you are on the Big Island and this is the ONE! We discovered so many beautiful secrets on the island because of this book..and the directions given are the most accurate. I think word of this book is catching on because we ran into a number of couples who were carrying it around...their Hawaiian Bible. Don't hesitate!

    Very Honest Opinions

When I usually look at a travel book, I feel that the reviewer is a stuffy person who has to be very impressed or he/she will slam it. The authors of this book evaluate the site, restaurant or lodging with their own opinion, but down to earth. When I read this book, I feel that they are talking to me as an acquaintance. They do not hold back punches and will tell you to just skip something if they feel it is not worth it. On the other side, they may say they like something and tell you why. . This allows you to see where they are coming from. They were the most part¿ right on. This is a must-have book for your visit to the Big Island. My wife had it with her all the time. When seeing something on our road trips, we would refer the ¿Blue Book¿ and see if it was worth it.

    Honest, valuable guide book

Great descriptions of the different parts, coasts of Hawaii, with plenty information both for the must see and the off the beaten track sights, activities. Always enternaining and insightful and full of information, if occasionally a little chaotic. Camp site section should be re-evaluated, though.

A Must Have If You are Going to Hawaii

This book redefined my definition of a good guide book. It is amazingly well layed out, easy to use with good insite. You feel like you are getting advise from a friend as you read through the book choosing a place to eat, or snorkle, or what trails to hike. Get it and you will not be disapointed.

    An absolutely wonderful book!

This book is a must have if visiting the Big Island. We recently returned from our 2 week vacation there and we didn't go anywhere without this book. The authors pointed out great places to see, and wonderful places to eat! Kudos for listing the Hawaiian Style Cafe!! We ate there many times and had absolutely wonderful meals each time. Another reason we loved this book was the historical background they gave about the various sites. While visiting the sites we were able to learn a bit of history about the area, which really made for a fun-filled, fact-filled vacation. Don't go to the Big Island without this book!!

    Amazingly informative...

Written by knowledgable, 'street smart' people who truly love the subject of their writing. A wonderful source of gobs and gobs of suculant, down to earth, 'common sense' information that is actualy useful. Don't leave for the Big Island without this book! It will become a cherished friend the moment you touchdown on the crushed lava runway at the Kona airport. I've been to the Big Island many times and this book seems to capture the look and feel of Hawai'i better than any other. Simply the best guidebook I've ever thumbed through...Heck, I read it from cover to cover in two days flat, I just couldn't put it down! (hmmmm... and I never thought I'd be able to say THAT about a guidebook)

    Awesome

This is the guide book that I well measure all future guide books against. I would never have done half of what I did without having read this book. I was amazed at how in depth and specific the directions to the beaches were. I would never have thought a car could drive over some of those trails.

    The Best Guidebook Ever!!!

This is the best guidebook I have ever used. Eminently readable, clear, concise, often funny, and most of all, accurate! It gives explicit descriptions and directions (right down to telephone pole numbers for hard to find places) to everywhere you might want to go on the island. It is broken down in such a way that you can either read it cover to cover or flip through it to easily find the information you need. I found myself reading it each night in order to plan the next days trips. I'd buy any other guide the authors might choose to put out on the strength of this book. They didn't lead me astray about any of the places they either recommended or warned against. Just fantastic!

    great book

Went to Hawaii 8/01 and this book was wonderful. All the advice was great, especially for meals and off road adventures that we would have not gone to otherwise. We used the maps and directions from the book more than the local maps that were handed out. We are planning on going to Maui next and buying the Maui edition for that trip as well!! The best travel book we've ever used!!

This book is truly one of the best guides for anyplace. Everything is right on the money. Best of all, it is written to be fun to read, not just a guidebook. I couldn't recommend a guidebook more.

A Great Guide for a Great Island

This is definitely one of the best guide books I have ever used and I have used a bunch. What makes it great? First, thorough coverage of all areas of the island and all topics. Second, honest and forthright appraisals of restaurants, attractions, etc. Third, great maps -- detailed and easy to read. Fourth, and perhaps msot important, the authors love their subject. Be sure to get this book well before you go, spend some time reading, highlighting and underlining and then have a great and well-guided time on your trip to the Big Island.
