Overview

Camouflaged images of Mickey Mouse are concealed all around the Walt Disney World Resort. Author Steve Barrett adds to the fun of finding them by turning the search into six scavenger hunts, complete with clues, hints, and points to be scored. Barrett has searched Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland and all the rest of WDW to bring this guide to Disney World’s “hidden Mickeys” up to date with scores of new sightings of the cleverly camouflaged images. Disney’s designers have hidden them all around WDW—in the parks, shops, restaurants, and resort hotels—to delight visitors. Barrett offers a scavenger hunt for each of the four theme parks—Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom—as well as one for the WDW resort hotels, and one for everything else—Downtown Disney, the WDW water parks, the golf courses, and so on. Scavenger hunt for hidden Mickeys by following the “clues” in each hunt. Or consult the “Index to Mickey’s Hiding Places” in the back of the book to look for Mickey wherever you find yourself, without following a scavenger hunt. This new sixth edition includes over 1,200 hidden Mickeys in all, with complete descriptions of each one in the “hints” sections of each scavenger hunt. Compete with family and friends to see who can find Mickey first. Or simply enjoy spotting these clever hidden images on your own.

Editorial Reviews

Walt Disney World Hints.com, 7/8/2013 - Terri Miller
Are you familiar with the thrill of finding “Hidden Mickeys” at Disney World? If not, let me introduce you to a fantastic tool that will guide your hunt and enhance your Disney experience: Hidden Mickeys: A Field Guide to Walt Disney World's Best Kept Secrets.
Before you begin, Barrett defines an official Hidden Mickey as “a partial or complete image of Mickey Mouse that has been hidden by Disney’s Imagineers and artists in the designs of Disney attractions, hotels, restaurants and other areas. These images are designed to blend into their surroundings.”
Similar to the previous editions, the 6th edition is divided into easy-to-use scavenger hunts, detailed clues and hints, a comprehensive index and a great chapter about Barrett’s Top Ten Hidden Mickeys. Each Hidden Mickey is assigned a point value so that you can get a little competitive too! This newest edition has been updated to include Hidden Mickeys from New Fantasyland and as new Hidden Mickeys are found the Hidden Mickey website gets updated.
As an avid “Hidden Mickey” hunter and collector of several of Steven Barrett’s field guides, I was looking forward to the 6th edition of this fantastic book. Mr. Barrett did not disappoint! Whether you are a first-time reader or have several copies in your pocket during each Disney vacation, the 6th edition includes comprehensive information that will add value and fun to your next trip.

Meet the Author

Steven M. Barrett is the author of Hidden Mickeys guides to Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and the Disney Cruise Line. He lives in Seminole County, Florida, near Orlando. Barrett paid his first visit to Disney World in the late 1980s, after attending a conference in Orlando. He immediately fell under its spell, visiting it twice yearly with family and friends for the next several years, offering touring advice to the less initiated, and reading almost everything written about the WDW theme parks. When a job in his field opened up not far from WDW in 1998, Barrett, a Texas native, Air Force veteran, and former University of Oklahoma professor, relocated to the Orlando area from Houston, Texas. He began visiting the WDW parks every chance he got to enjoy the attractions, sample the restaurants, escort visiting friends and relatives, and find hidden Mickeys! His interest in them led him to write his three Hidden Mickeys field guides.

ISBNs and titles of Barrett’s previous books: Disneyland's Hidden Mickeys, 4th edition, 9781937011284; Hidden Mickeys Go to Sea, 2nd edition, 9781937011222.

Great for those going to Disney World!

This book turns going to Disney World into a scavenger hunt for hidden Mickeys. I bought this for my last vacation there and unfortunately, forgot to pack it. I spent the week searching for hidden Mickey's without it and only found one. My only complaint is that the book should be more compact so carrying it around the parks with you as a guide is a bit more convenient. This won't fit in a pocket or small shoulder bag because it's just too tall.

    Good fun

Good fun for the 7 to 14 year-old crowd. Especially fun on rainy days at the park.
