In the early 1990s, Selena Quintanilla shook up the world of Tejano, a hybrid of Mexican and American music, by fronting an energetic young band that included guitarist Chris Perez. Initially more interested in Selena's strong voice and the band's innovative take on tradition than in romance, Perez soon found himself falling head over heels for Selena. Perez portrays his girlfriend and eventual wife--they eloped in 1992 after growing weary of concealing their relationship from Selena's overly protective father--as a spirited daredevil with a heart of gold. She was an animal lover, motorcycle enthusiast and emerging fashion designer whose religious beliefs grounded her within the chaotic music industry. Unfortunately, Selena's trusting nature led her to welcome a dangerous woman, Yolanda Saldivar, into her inner circle. As Selena's fan-club president and personal assistant, Saldivar soon proved to be unstable, manipulative and larcenous. Perez calls her a "cancer," an epithet that would turn out to be tragically apt when Saldivar killed Selena in 1995, shooting her in the back and causing internal bleeding. Recounting the day that Selena died as well as the ensuing funeral, Perez captures these events in heartbreaking detail.     An Amazing Read

    I ordered the book, got it yesterday, and finished it today. It grabbed my attention and truly explained the life Chris and Selena had planned out and their wonderful and rare realationship. It was very touching and moving. Chris goes in depth into the details of his marriage with Selena and clears up many theories, shows how much they loved each other, and shows their ups and rare downs. I totally recommend it for anybody who would love to read a true, real life moving story.

    No pictuers

    The hard copy includes a section of pictures between pages 184 and 185 the nook copy does not have these pictures. The pictures are exclusives photos of Selena they are not included in the nook copy. I had to purchase the hard copy to have them.

    You will not put this book down. I promise.

    We all know how the story ends. What we didn’t really know, and later learn through the glimpses that Chris Perez graciously lets us peek in on, is how it all began. To Selena, With Love, embraces a voice so authentic, so genuine, and so honest that readers can’t help but cry, smile, lament, grieve, and celebrate alongside with Chris on this incredibly touching journey. Throughout the years, I’ve often thought about Chris Perez and the aftermath of what he must have emotionally and physically endured after Selena’s death. When I caught wind of his upcoming book, my curiosity was peaked. I must admit that while the book is cloaked in Selena, it is really as much about Chris as well. It is my hope that readers embrace his willingness to allow free access into an area of his life that he could have left private forever. Told from the vantage point of one who “quietly observes from the fringes”, Chris lets the reader know point blank what both he and Selena agonizingly endured by living out their forbidden romance. The pictures he paints of Abraham’s despise reveal many hurtful moments that most persons would not have tolerated. But Chris prevailed, and does so still today in the face of truth as told from his perspective. A point that Chris articulates well is that he fell in love with the “real” Selena. And that is the Selena he presents page by page, word by word. The examples he shares are intimate and simplistic, yet bring an extraordinarily powerful presence to Selena’s memory. This is not an easy task and Chris must be commended for letting his authentic spirit vividly recall the eternal love of his life. I connected with many of the childhood memories Chris shared partly because we are from the same city and age range, but mostly because our economic backgrounds were similar. I found myself laughing when he mentioned his mom loving 55KTSA because my mom did as well. So much so, that I have pictures of me as a child covered in 55KTSA buttons and clothing she made for a radio sponsored contest! I felt deep sadness in moments when Chris discusses being deemed unworthy of Selena’s affections. To me, this must have worn heavily on his core sense of self. Chris, however, ultimately transcends those feelings and comes to a place of assured certainty in both his love for Selena and of her love for him! Chris will make you cry when retelling the painful moments of Selena’s death and his reactions that followed. The tear-jerker moment for me (and there were many) is his attempt at preserving her scent after her death. I won’t reveal the details but warn you that you better have a box of tissue nearby. Ultimately, this book is about the resurrection of Chris Perez and his “struggle to find meaning in life again”. It is about freeing himself from the walls of his grief and deciding to return to the land of the living. This book is his “best I can” moment. “I love you, Christopher,” Selena said. She always used my full name whenever things were serious or intense between us. “Let’s never let anything between us change. Promise?” Her voice was as solemn as I’d ever heard it. “I promise,” I said, and told her how much I loved her, too. “I don’t know what I’d do if I ever lost you,” I confessed. Chris Perez wrote a book, for Selena, and that’s how the story really ends.

    Amazing!!!!!!! A MUST BUY & READ

    I dont even know where to begin, this book had me laughing, entertained and very sad and depress, Chris did am amazing job and had TREMENDOUS strength and courage to share his moments with Selena
    I am a selena fan and once i found out about hi book i HAD to buy it

    Great book

    Could have been better...

    I guess I expected so much more from this book - yea it was a nice insight into their love for each other, but to me it wasn't about HER. The movie Selena seemed more about her than the book. Also one fact was wrong - Chris stated that Selena "in January, played a concert at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo", anyone who had followed Selena’s concerts would know that she played that on Sunday Feb 26, 1995 and her last performance was Sunday March 26 in Bryan, Texas. I wish the book would have been more about her & her final days, maybe even more about how Chris felt during the trial would have been worth reading about.

    Bittersweet & incredible

    I met the love of my life a few months after Selena's death. Her & Chris's story always gave me chills and somehow helped me be so appreciative of my own new love. I lost my husband 5 years later. Chris put into words through his own story the heartache of love and hope lost that is easy to emphatize with but never truly able to get unless you've walked down the road. I feel a special connection to this story and oddly wondered about Chris for years. I never followed music so didn't really know how he was doing other than the random thing on the radio. I thank him so sharing and get why it took so long.

    Wow

    I was very excited to see this book had been written. As soon as i started it i coukd not put it down. I laughed and I cried and felt extreme gut wrenching feelings when Chris explained his feelings if Selena's death. It is a wonderful insight to see in writing hiw much he truly loved and admired the real Selena. This book is long overdue, but totally worth the wait. Awesome read!

    Loved this

    As a Texan and Hispanic I have been a huge fan of Selena y Los Dinos ever since i can remember, but Chris was always a bit of mystery n i always wondered what their private life as a couple was like. This book answers exactly that. Absolutely beautiful book, it had me crying tears of joy n of sorrow <3

    A MUST READ!!!!!!!

    This book is a must read for Selena fans or anyone who enjoys a true, down to earth love story! This book sheds light on her life from the most respected source, her husband. Private stories, jokes, and insight are heart wrenching and endearing. Incredible work, Chris!

    I loved this book! I was a big fan of Selena's. I loved to hear

    I loved this book! I was a big fan of Selena's. I loved to hear her sing. I had stopped listening to Tejano music during my teens, but I saw her once and it was enough to make me remeber what I loved about the music. Reading this book about her personal life, just confirmed what I saw on stage, beautiful, caring soul. It has made her more of a real person instead of a celebrity. Thank you, Chris for sharing this beautiful story with us. You did an amazing job in telling it and opening your heart to us. REST IN PEACE LA REYNA SELENA.

    As soon as I started reading this book I couldn't put it back do

    As soon as I started reading this book I couldn't put it back down. It is amazing to see Selena as a real person other than a famous talented singer. I would highly recommend this book not only to fans but to anyone else who wants to read a romantic story..... Chris did a terrific job on narrowing the story. I can see parts that were probaly very hard for him to write especially if you are reliving all these memories. I give it to you Chris and may God bless you. Just know and remember something you already know that Selena will in fact always be with you.

Its funny, you get to see Selena as a real person not a famous person. Its soo lovely. It would not consider this a &quot;Tell All&quot; book this is far from that.
