Simon rode a motorcycle around the world in the seventies, when such a thing was unheard of. In four years he covered 78,000 miles through 45 countries, living with peasants and presidents, in prisons and palaces, through wars and revolutions. What distinguishes this book is that Simon was already an accomplished writer. In 25 years this book has changed many lives, and inspired many to travel, including Ewan McGregor.

    good read

Sit back and imagine you will be paid to ride a Triumph motorcycle around the world - with an expense account to boot. That's the story behind this book. Simon does a good job of describing the people and places he encounters. He meets a lot of frustration as well and overdoes the whining when things go awry which spoils it a bit. But overall an enjoyable adventure. One to read and reread every winter when the bike's parked in the garage.

    Love the Adventure!

I stumbled upon Jupiter's Travels one dreary fall whilst living in NYC. Ted's adventure was wonderful and I really felt as though I was there with him. It inspired me to learn to ride (no small feat in triple-parked Brooklyn as a woman) and because anything less than a world trip was possible (thanks Ted). I've loved my trips and daily commutes. Having just seen the Long Way Round, I was delighted to see that Ewan & Charley met Ted Simon (Ewan's inspiration too) along the way. If you've ever been or aspired to be a motorcyclist, Ted Simon's book & the Long Way Round dvd get into your heart and head. I am so smiling.
