"This book is a remarkable celebration of America. In photographs and in words, Tim Palmer has captured the magic and value of rivers as nobody has ever done, and as nobody is ever likely to do again." -Don Elder, president, River Network

Anyone who has ever paddled down, fished in, or relaxed along one of America's rivers understands their power to nourish, inspire, and enchant-but until now, no book has truly captured the rivers' majesty. Award-winning author, conservationist, and photographer Tim Palmer has spent his life exploring and learning about these sometimes peaceful, sometimes turbulent waterways, and in the pages of Rivers of America he shares his amazing images. An incomparable collection of nearly 200 stunning photographs from all across the United States, Rivers of America celebrates the essence of flowing water like no other book before it. Accompanying the dazzling images are Palmer's eloquent essays, in which he describes the magic of rivers and their vital ecological role in our lives.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
These days, many of us rarely see nature in its true wildness except on television or up on the movie screen. Award-winning photographer and noted conservationist Palmer (California Wild) shows us exactly what we have been missing in this large and glossy visual and textual celebration of American rivers. Over 200 photographs, with larger pictures spanning two full pages, reveal both the similarities and the differences among hundreds of bodies of water in our large and varied country. Palmer's chatty, casually written text discusses individual river trips and the unique features of the various waterways he discovered on his travels. An index lists all photographed locations by river name, along with a brief yet thorough list of river conservation groups. This stunningly beautiful book will inspire readers to hike or drive to the nearest river. Lacking formal scientific documentation, this is not a book that an academic librarian would ever reach for when assisting students with a formal research need, but it would certainly benefit an academic institution with a large photography department or a strong program in the study of natural philosophy.
