Overview

Laura Sobiech tells the amazing story of how God used her son’s battle with cancer to touch the lives of millions.

“Okay, Lord, you can have him. But if he must die, I want it to be for something big. I want someone’s life to be changed forever.”

This is what Laura Sobeichprayed when she found out her seventeen-year-old son had only one year to live. With this desperate prayer, she released her son to God’s will.

At that point, Zach Sobiech was just another teenager battling cancer. When his mother told him to think about writing good-bye letters to family and friends, he decided instead to write songs. One of them, “Clouds,” captured hearts and changed not one life but millions, making him an international sensation.

But Zach’s story is not just about music. It’s a testament to what can happen when you live as if each day might be your last. It’s a story about the human spirit. It’s about how God used a dying boy from a small town in Minnesota to touch the hearts of millions—including top executives in the music industry, major music artists, news anchors, talk show hosts, actors, priests and pastors, and school children across the globe.

Zach once said, “I want to be known as the kid who went down fighting, and didn’t really lose.” Fly a Little Higher is about how God used Zach to do something big.

I just finished reading "Fly A Little Higher" and have never been so moved by a book in my life. This book tells the story of Zach Sobiech's life and how he lived gracefully while dying. Yet, it is so much more than that. As a young mom and wife, Laura Sobiech has taught me so much about raising a family. Her unwavering faith in God is inspiring and I hope to be able to handle difficult times in my life with as much grace and confidence in God's plan as she does. I can’t remember the last time I cried as hard as I did while reading this wonderful book. The first tear fell before I finished the second page. I cried at several parts in the story and found myself sobbing, having to wipe the tears so I could continue reading, from page 273 to the end. Laura is my hero. I hope that I can raise my kids to know and love God like she has; to be a patient, kind, loving, and understanding mother like her. I hope I can view the world and the moments in my life the way she does. I hope I can find strength and peace in tough times, and trust in the Lord when I am suffering. Although I am a Catholic, I have always found it difficult to believe in God without questioning the reality of Him. I believe, but I struggle with wrapping my head around God and heaven. When contemplating death I find myself struggling to understand how someone can be here one moment and then just gone. Where do they go? Heaven hopefully…but what is heaven and is it really real? I so hope it is. I just wish that when faced with these questions I had Laura’s strong faith. Looking at my own children now, a knot is forming in my stomach just trying to picture what it would be like to experience what she went through. My heart breaks for her yet her words have brought me peace. Her stories of signs that Zach has given of his presence since his passing have helped to increase my belief and for that I am so thankful to Laura. Thank you Laura for sharing your story and your faith with the world. Alli, Sam, Zach, and Grace are lucky to have you as their mom, guiding them. This story is for the young and old, believers and nonbelievers, mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters. It is a story of life and loss, but most of all it is a story about how one boy chose to live a life of faith, love, and hope despite the hand he had been dealt. He brings clarity to the meaning and purpose of life. Read this book. You will learn so much from the way Zach lived and you will be a better person for it.

Just finished Fly a Little Higher. What an amazing book. My copy is earmarked and written in. So many beautiful insights. What an impact this young man had on our family, our community, and the world! His mom did an incredible job sharing his story. Thank you Laura. Zach came to speak at my son's confirmation class and my son was truly amazed at how Zach lived his life with joy in the midst of such suffering.

i love this book. i saw his video my last days in my speech class it brought tears to my eyes and i love zach's song ''CLOUDS" i even dowloaded it. i think i would of been nice if i had the chance to have met him in person because he was a great guy by just seeing that video. he was always happy and it made me cry when i saw him crying. i say Mrs. Sobiech was a very lucky woman for having such an inspiring young man as a son and i know she is very proud of zach and the Sobiech family is very lucky to have a very great and loving angel up there in heaven taking care of them and Zach Sobiech will always be remembered he went up up up but he flew a little higher just to see and watch over his family from that view thats a little nicer

Fly a Little Higher is an amazing story, written by an incredible woman, about a remarkable teenage boy and his family's battle against Osteosarcoma. As the family travels down the tricky, winding road of a cancer patient with Zach, you can feel the sadness, joy, and pure awe that they experience at every event. It's an incredibly emotional story that will have you in tears, but ultimately leaves you feeling uplifted and incredibly grateful for every day you experience.

I love the cover of this book. It's beautiful.

As a Mother, grandmother and great grandmother I can't imagine. My heart went out to Laura. As a Christian
I can see that I fall short of the faith that Laura and her son has. Wow!!!!!!
I am dealing with my puppy having cancer and she only has a short time and I scream out to God he is unfair!!!!!!!!!! She is only 4 years old and it doesn't seem fair and yet Laura has a young son and they both have such great faith.

When this book first came up for review I had a chance to get it but I went twice for a different book. This time I tried for a Bible and I clicked on it and it didn't work I tried 3 times to click on it and it didn't work so I guess God wanted me to read it because he knew Cassie (my Aussie) would soon be with him and I had no idea she was sick. I am thinking of rereading the book and really read it and see if I can find some peace because I sure am crying my eyes out now.

This boy Zack has such faith and so does his Mom. She wanted him to write a good bye  letter but he decided to write a song "Cloud" and it made a hit.

This book will warm you heart, your soul and your life.
I suggest if you are going through anything like Laura is or me I went through it with my Dad, sister and now my puppy. I will reread this book again.

Grab this book it will help you and warm your heart too. It may not take the pain away but you will see their faith and love for God. You will not be sorry you bought the book.

I received this book free from booklookbloggers for an honest review, I was not required to write a positive review just an honest review. The opinions I have express are entirely my own and no one else's.

The beautifully written story of Zach Sobiech who touched so many lives while living with Cancer.  This young man and his family deeply changed my life and my own family.  Zach will never be forgotten.  If you haven't heard of Zach, or even if you have, this is one story that you won't want to miss!  Thank you Laura, for sharing your son with the world and allowing him to touch so many lives with his own.

An outstanding book of enduring faith, love and hope written in such a way that you feel as if you know each individual personally.  Zach's story is beyond inspirational, it is life-changing.  The Sobiech family's choice to choose  faith over despair allows us to see that faith is how you live, not what you preach. After reading this book and watching his 'My Last Days' video, my idea of how I want to live my life and view this world is forever changed.  Thank you Laura for sharing Zach's story in this beautifully written book and for being a beacon of faith for this world.
