You can count on Rick Steves to tell you what you really need to know when traveling in Eastern Europe—including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia.

Explore Eastern Europe’s top cities, from the romantic spires of Prague and the steamy thermal baths of Budapest to charming Kraków and laid-back Ljubljana. Enjoy the imperial sights of Vienna and walking tours of exotic Dubrovnik. Then delve into the region’s natural wonders: hike through the waterfall wonderland at Plitvice Lakes National Park, drive the winding road to the Julian Alps, and watch the sun dip slowly into the Adriatic from the Dalmatian Coast.

Rick’s candid, humorous advice will guide you to good-value hotels and restaurants. He’ll help you plan where to go and what to see, depending on the length of your trip. You’ll learn which sights are worth your time and money, and how to get around by train, bus, car, and boat. Meet the Author

Rick Steves

Rick Steves has spent 100 days every year since 1973 exploring Europe. Rick produces a public television series (Rick Steves' Europe), a public radio show (Travel with Rick Steves), and an app and podcast (Rick Steves Audio Europe); writes a bestselling series of guidebooks and a nationally syndicated newspaper column; organizes guided tours that take thousands of travelers to Europe annually; and offers an information-packed website (ricksteves.com). With the help of his hardworking staff of 80 at Europe Through the Back Door—in Edmonds, Washington, just north of Seattle—Rick's mission is to make European travel fun, affordable, and culturally broadening for Americans.

Cameron Hewitt writes and edits guidebooks for Rick Steves’ Europe. He first visited Budapest on a lark in 1999…and now he can’t stay away. From Budapest’s colorful and quirky history, to its grandiose architecture, to its mouthwatering food, to its uniquely enjoyable thermal baths, Cameron can’t get enough of this enthralling, enigmatic, exhilarating city. When he’s not on the road, Cameron lives in Seattle with his wife, Shawna.

Rick Steves always hits the nail on the head.

As with his other books, this one gives good complete information for travelers. It is geared toward those who prefer to be partly to wholly independent. You will know what to expect when traveling in Eastern Europe and pick up good ideas to make your trip a better one. Easy on the budget too.

    Read Rick on the Airplane

I used to buy a big book like this (over 1200 pages) and tear out the sections I needed to lighten my travel bags. Now I can take the whole book with me in my Nook. This is the 2010 (latest version) book, an upgrade from an earlier version. It is all updated. The only problem with eEditions is that many are not properly proof-read after being scanned using optical character recognition (OCR) from the paper version. There are words like 'fo' which you know should be 'for'. This problem will be solved when the publishers create the eEdition direct from their digital files used to create both eEditions and paper printed pages.

    City Information is Best

Too broad an area to provide much detail if you want to see more than cities. We enjoy the countryside and nature, which this book really didn't give us much hope for planning a vacation
