This book is at least a 'must read' for anyone who is looking to take a trip down the 'Mother Road'. I have all three editions of this guide, and I have found it to be a valuable tool on my excursions on Route 66. Tom Snyder provides the reader not only with some helpful maps and directions to the alignments of the road, but also some great extras. He relates interesting stories about the road, the towns, the people and about interesting events, all of which help create the colorful tapestry of the route's history. Snyder also provides some tidbits on good places to eat and stay to better enhance the experience of driving on the Main Street Of America. This is the kind of book not to be found on a coffee table, but on the seat beside you as you head down the highway with its pages 'dog eared', and adorned with coffee and classic road food stains, like those delicious Cozy Dogs or ribs from 'The Pit'. Kudos to the writer, here. I only wish more highways had guides like these.

Excellent travel information guide. Well worth using for reading and for the road trip. Have purchased as gifts for friends and family who wish to take road trips and they love it. Purchased it for myself when I bought it for friends, because I couldn't resist, and I love it. Quite the fun and nostalgic trip for those of us who traveled the "Mother Road" in the early days, before freeways. A fun, historical book whether you travel or not, but it does make you want to take the Route 66 vacation road trip.

This book was invaluable for our recent trip of route 66 and highway 40. The best part for us was information about road difficulties with an rv and we plan to return in our corvette to cover the parts of route 66 we couldn't get to.
