It is patently obvious that author Michael Wallace has done his research. Even if you are not a Route 66 buff you will enjoy the history, perspective, and personal insight so abundant in 'The Mother Road'. Although Wallace hits the high points on a few of the more notable roadside attractions, most of his text is focused on the history of the road and how it relates to a specific area. It really is a wonderful read. The addition of the 'Faces of Route 66' featurettes only serves to make the stories all the more personal. Highly Recommended!

This book is my favorite of all the Route 66 books. It goes state by state. It is easy to follow. It interviews some of the more famous characters on the road. Some of these road warriors have died since the original publication. If you only buy one 66 book, this is the best. Pictures of some of the places are still exactly the same many years later.

If you can only read one book about Route 66, then this is the one. I have cherished this book since it first appeared many years ago and now I am enjoying the brand new updated edition. This is the definitive book about the nation's definitive highway.
