    Highly recommend

This is a "required reading" book from our travel agency for our trip to France. If you want an art/historical approach to organizing your own trip to France, this book is for you. It is quite readable, opinionated, and thorough. The author recognizes the rich legacy France offers to the visitor who searches for it, and her book is a valuable guide for such a traveler.

A wonderful format for travel in France

A wonderful way to organize travel within France. We recently followed Ina Caro's suggested routes, and found that her book added both depth and enjoyment to the towns and sites we saw. We especially liked her dry wit, and her relating the behind-the-scenes stories about Roman arenas, theatres & arches, the Dark & Middle ages, the Inquisitions, the Pilgrimages, the walled cities, the fortress cathedral, the Medieval castles along the Loire, etc. By loosely following her book we were able to see & feel history unfold by seeing the most outstanding structures, towns & sites representing each period. Although this book was published in 1996, her recommendations were right on. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is not only the best travel book I've ever read, but it is among the best books of any type I have ever read -- and that's saying a lot!
