This is a great quick reference guide with just enough information to point you in the right direction for more detailed research (if need be). My young grandchildren love to drag it around the backyard identifying insects. It even includes tracks and scat of various animals.

Highly recommend if you are an outdoors person.

Our Ranger at Yosemite referred to this book and passed it around quite often. Hers was quite worn so I figured it was worthwhile to buy. I wasn't wrong. It is all inclusive, with pictures and diagrams. Very informative on many aspects of the Sierra Nevadas.

    Highly Recommend this Field Guide!

I asked a highly respected person and quite knowledgeable in birds (a regular speaker for the Annual Snow Goose Festival, held each year end of January) for his top two choices for bird reference books. This Field Guide as well as Sierra Nevada Natural History, by Storer, Usinger, and Lukas came highly recommended. Anyone who lives in the Sierra Nevadas or just has an interest in ALL types of wildlife: flora and fauna, will find these books a necessity for ones personal library. Also, the drawings are thorough and extensive.
