Won through LibraryThing's early reviewers. Let me start out by saying I am a native Ohioan. I have been hiking most of these trails (especially the ones in NE Ohio) my whole life.
I was pretty impressed with this book. It offers a lot of really great information on each hike and the adjacent area. Each hike is intended as a day-hike but most could certainly be extended. The hikes are each rated on difficulty on a scale of 1-5 boots with 5 boots being most difficult. In my opinion, a hike that is 90% boardwalk and handicap accessible should not be rated 2 boot difficulty. Perhaps the book is geared toward people who are not avid hikers? My other concern is regarding the maps. I grew up 10 minutes from West Branch State Park and the map indicates two towns that I have never heard of, Augerburg and Campbellsport. If someone from out of town stopped and asked me directions referencing one of these town, I could not help them. This makes me question the information on the rest of the maps throughout the book.
I especially like the chart in the front of the book that has a quick overview of each park's amenities, trail names, distance, difficulty and landscape. This makes it easy to choose a destination at a glance. Overall I think this book is a great reference for anyone who enjoys hiking.
