Meet the Author

Charles Wohlforth is a lifelong Alaskan who has been a writer and journalist since 1986. Wohlforth lives in Anchorage with his wife, Barbara; sons, Robin and Joseph; and daughters, Julia and Rebecca. His book about Eskimos experiencing warming in the Arctic is titled The Whale and the Supercomputer: On the Northern Front of Climate Change (North Point Press). A forthcoming book from St. Martin’s Press is tentatively titled Hidden Waters: Human Nature and the Fate of the Oceans, and explores the history, ecology, and anthropology of Prince William Sound.     Best overall Alaska travel guide

    We made our first trip to Alaska this year and used the previous edition of this book. We bought several Alaska travel guides to help plan our trip, and this one was the most helpful overall.

    Great For Alaska Lovers And For Those Who Would Like To Get To Know It

    This book is well-written, concise and very helpful in assisting visitors who would like to accurately navigate their way through this huge, very beautiful, but remote wilderness state called Alaska.

    Highly recommend

    Of all of the books that we read about Alaska before our trip, this was the most helpful. Author is a native and had good tips on the must-sees.
