Meet the Author

Jamie Jensen grew up in Southern California, back when freeways were new, cheeseburgers cost a quarter, and every beach had a beachfront amusement park. After wasting his early 20s bumming around the country, making hay in Kansas and ghost-writing a book for the Grateful Dead, in 1990 Jamie set to work researching and writing Road Trip USA. Since then he's traveled more than 400,000 miles in search of the perfect stretch of two-lane blacktop, but when not criss-crossing the country by car he rides his bike whenever possible. Jamie lives with his wife Catherine and twin boys Tom and Alex in Davis, California, near the west end of US-50.

    Very informative!

I recently drove the PCH HWY with my boyfriend and this book was very informative and highlighted some of the areas we would have missed i.e the worlds largest artichoke (located in Castroville CA) I would highly recommend this book if you are planning a PCH trip. It was easy to read and gave quick information about the places we drove through with recommendations of places to eat and stay.

Great travel guide with right amount of info not to overwhelm

I wanted the travel guide as I was driving from San Diego to Seattle and this guide was perfect. I usually go with Lonely Planet but didn't want to be overwhelmed with information - just short notes on what shouldn't be missed. I stayed at a couple of the hotels listed (Curly Redwood Inn in Cresent City, CA and Crest Inn/Motel in Astoria, OR). They were perfect for what I wanted - cheap but clean and safe. Hard to beat $65 for a night over looking the Columbia River. I just wish I had more time to do everything in the book. The book is now with my parents who plan on using it while in N.CA this summer. If you're going to make the drive up/down the coast, taking highways 1 and 101, this is a good guide to invest in.
