New York Times Best seller!

Pat O’Brien was a skinny South Dakota kid with long hair, a rock and roll band, divorced parents and an alcoholic father. In all the familiar ways, he was on the road to nowhere until a professor, who envisioned his future as the household name he would soon become, dramatically changed his life.

From that day forward Pat’s life took turns that were both spectacular and destructive: from the Huntley-Brinkley Report and afternoons at Bobby Kennedy’s living room with Muhammad Ali to conversations with six Presidents. He did acid with Timothy Leary, drank with Mickey Mantle, and over the course of a remarkable career up close and personal with the Beatles, The Stones, The Kennedy’s, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and virtually every star in Hollywood.

In I’LL BE BACK RIGHT AFTER THIS, Pat reveals the highs and lows of the life of a radio and TV broadcaster, spent sharing the mic with the world’s rich and famous while battling an infamous public scandal and demons that nearly killed him. With laughter, tears and miracles he reveals how he learned to accept his mistakes, find redemption and become the father he never had, proving there really are second and even third acts in life.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Pat O'Brien is, to say the least, unique. He is not only the only member of the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to have studied economics at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies; this talented TV personality has also covered six Olympics, hosted Access Hollywood for seven years, dropped acid with Timothy Leary, and knocked back drinks with Mickey Mantle. In this very candid memoir, he shares stories of his triumphs, embarrassments, and comebacks. One great read.

From the Publisher
ADVANCE PRAISE FOR I’LL BE BACK RIGHT AFTER THIS:

"Pat's book is a fine and fancy ramble through fame and pain and addiction and glory, and from it all, a terrible beauty born." —Hall-of-Fame Sportscaster Lesley Visser

"Pat approaches life like a mad scientist. Sometimes his alchemy yields dangerous, even combustible results. But he’s taken copious notes and he’s generous enough to share them with all of us. Kids, don’t try this at home." - Michael J. Fox

"A courageous unflinching journey through the crucible of fame and public approbation to the depths of the consequences of addiction. Pat has done it all right before our very eyes, only to find his way to an inspirational recovery. A must read textbook on the rewards of recovery." - Dr. Drew Pinsky

"Here's why as a coach I love Pat: if he turns the ball over, he gets it back and scores. I've always been proud to have him as a friend. He's taught me a lot about what's really important." - John Calipari, national championship-winning coach of the Kentucky Wildcats

"Pat O’Brien has spent a career telling the stories of others, in sports and in the entertainment business. Now he finally gets around to telling the best one of all, about himself. And in the end, it turns out to be a story that comes right out of the world of sports, the one about how you get back up after being knocked down." - Mike Lupica, New York Daily News

“Rich and well-written….In addition to being quite entertaining, there’s something for everyone in O’Brien’s story. Sports fans will thrill to anecdotes about legends like Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson….Consumers of tabloids will enjoy the juicy tales from a host who readily admits he’s a name-dropper.” - Kirkus Reviews

The star-filled career of one of America’s most famous entertainment show anchors, complicated by true confessions of a spectacular fall from grace. When Charlie Sheen tells you, “That was an excellent effort, my man,” it’s probably time to take stock of your life. That’s where O’Brien (Talkin' Sports: A B.S.-er's Guide, 2008, etc.) found himself in 2005 when a series of sexually graphic, drug-and-alcohol–fueled voice-mail messages appeared in the tabloid press. Recorded during an epic drunken blackout, the messages were just one red flag for a man racing toward destruction. “Mine is a story of daydreams and fulfilled and unfulfilled ambitions,” he writes in the introduction, “of the craving for love from strangers and for belonging at the table, of failure and of redemption.” From there, the author tells a rich and well-written—if not overly complex—history of his rise from modest roots in South Dakota to becoming one of the most well-known media commentators in the country. In addition to being quite entertaining, there’s something for everyone in O’Brien’s story. Sports fans will thrill to anecdotes about legends like Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson, told with obvious nostalgia for the 1980s and ’90s, when the author covered the Olympics, NBA Finals, Final Four and Super Bowl, among other sporting events. Consumers of tabloids will enjoy the juicy tales from a host who readily admits he’s a name-dropper. “And it goes both ways; there’s a reason people want to talk with us,” he writes. “We are the link to the fans. So, it’s not me, folks, it’s the profession. If I didn’t get to know people, I wouldn’t be around long.” In the final third of the book, O’Brien covers his dramatic descent into a brutal, life-threatening alcoholism that took two stints in rehab to survive, complete with notes from his doctors that read, “Surrender or else.”A familiar, relatable story of dependence and repentance, filtered through the glam of Hollywood.

    Fate, Maus, and Seeker

    Fate (&male<_>)
Fate is a light brown tom with chestnut brown striping through, giving him a tiger look, just different colors. His eyes are a pure, bright amber, almost gold. Fate's genetics are exactly like his uncle's, a cat Snake has never mentioned to anyone about. Tail length is a good size, a little over a foot long.
Maus(&male<_>)
Maus is a firy orange tom with a plain color for his pelt. The only marking on him is a puffy white chest. His eyes are a light green, like his uncle Lyric's are. His tail is a little stubby, which might earn him the nickname 'Stubbytail' later in life. His tail is, in total, about two inches long.
Seeker(&male<_>)
Seeker is a dark black tom, able to perfectly blend into the night. He has no markings what-so-ever, and his nose is a bright prinkish color. His eyes are a light brown. His whiskers are 3/4 longer than the average cat, and his legs are strong, pretty much he will have no problem with being a klutz. His tail length is the same as his father's, 1 1/2 feet long.
