Nick Carter, best known as an incredibly talented member of the Backstreet Boys, has endured a very public struggle with addiction, family turmoil and health issues since the tender age of 12 years old. Together with the rest of the wildly successful boy band, he recorded multiple albums beginning in the1990s and continues to record and perform with them in 2013. Riding the wave of BSB's worldwide fame, Nick also released two solo albums and starred in a hit reality TV show, “House of Carters,” with his four siblings before the tragic death of his sister, Leslie. Carter has not made a secret of his ongoing fight with drug and alcohol abuse over the years he's spent in the public eye, but this book is his first complete account of his tumultuous life and pop-star lifestyle. Nick Carter fangirls hoping for a salacious, juicy tale are going to be very disappointed, but hopefully, everyone will gain something from Carter's inspiring tale.
The book has a very conversational tone, like you can almost imagine sitting across a table from Nick as he tells you not to follow his example.
Nick gives plenty of ideas on how to take steps to get through/past struggles and addictions in the ways that worked for him, and I believe you have to admire his approach.

I've been a loyal Backstreet fan for 20 years, I used to love and admire Nick for his talent, I had some context of what he had gone through, but after reading the book I must say I love and admire him MORE than before, having the courage of re-living the stuff he went through for the purpose of trying to help others, is from my point of view, amazing. This guy touched indescribable depths but he rose from the ashes like the phoenix, i think " Facing The Music And Living To Talk About It ' is going to serve as a very good example of what roads not to take, the way to rise if someone has fallen, i think it's going to help a lot of people.

It's hard to write about every detail of your life, not only for you to reread it but for everyone else. I think is a great book and gives me the chance to see the individual he is, not only the backstreet boys member. This is an amazing book. Every person needs to read this who thinks Nick has a perfect life. Everyone goes through struggles, even celebrities. Be prepared with a couple of tissues, was a tear jerker.

He wants to help anyone in pain, to move past obstacles & upward to become better and happier human beings. In book, he includes practical techniques to help us to thrive, in our limited time we have here on Planet Earth. Well done Nick! :)

This is a little confusing. The book is penned as a memior, however reads mostly as a self help book, and attempts to get clinical at times. It is very positive and uplifting, however you can tell it is not written by a "writer".what I expected was to be regaled by stories of wild abandonment, but what I got was a small look inside his world, and a large attempt by him to make the reader "introspective". Thought this was suppose to be about you, not me. Still all in all it's not a bad read. I will give it to my son to as an "avoid the pitfalls of drugs" type of message. I just hope he can make it through the pages and pages of self help sub chapters.

I have always been a bsb fan and i never knew nick have struggles like this but i am glad he was able to reconigize them and get help. I m glad that he wrote this book to tell his story and hopefully he can help others. Way to go nick on the book and i m glad u got ur life in order. Love u always.

Facing the Music and Living To Talk About It by Nick Carter is a slow-paced, repetitive self-help book in which the author shares his experiences as a member of the boyband, Backstreet Boys, the health and substance abuse problems that followed, his road to recovery, and the untimely death of his younger sister, as well as what he learned from it all. This book would make a better auto-biography instead of a self-help book because Carter is far from an expert, he’s just a newly recovering addict.
I have been a fan of his group since the beginning, but I was wary of reading this book because I know that Nick is not good with words. According to Carter, this book is supposed to be a self-help book, but it seemed like an auto-biography at times, so it was confusing in certain chapters. Nick tells us about his life growing up, “My siblings and I grew up in an unconventional family.” At a young age, Carter became famous because of the Backstreet Boys, and with the fame came drugs, alcohol, and girls. Nick starts to become repetitive in his story-telling. In each chapter, he repeats the same details from previous chapters, that he’s not a doctor or expert, but then why write a self-help book. On the other hand, he tells the reader about his worst night and the doctor appointment that made him change his lifestyle which could possibly help a struggling addict. At the end of the book, Carter finally tells us how he changed his lifestyle by exchanging drug abuse for fitness. Through his workouts, he met his fiancée and fell in love, which was unlike Carter because his parents’ marriage scared him into never wanting to fall in love or get married. Instead of turning to drugs when things are bad for him, he goes to the gym with his fiancée.
It was quite difficult to get through the book because it was boring at times; his dull details about wanting to change but not knowing how could have been condensed and not repeated in each chapter. That made me question the publishers who decided to print the book. I wouldn’t recommend this book to other people, it wasn’t a great read.

Once I read all the reviews I wasn't sure I would enjoy it. But I did find it a very good read. It is very inspiring to people with any sort of addiction. It does not have to be drug related. Love this book.
