Malala was born in 1997 in the Swat Valley of Pakistan. Her short lifetime has encompassed devastating changes in her country as it has been transformed from a once peaceful land to a hotbed of Islamic extremism. The Taliban have said Malala, who now lives in Birmingham, England, will be killed if she returns home. But she says she has been given a second life that she intends to use for the good of the people and her dream that all girls everywhere deserve an education.

Co-author Christina Lamb is one of Britain's leading foreign correspondents and knows Pakistan intimately. She lived in Peshawar for two years and has reported from Pakistan for 26 years. She has followed al Qaeda since its beginnings and was the only journalist on Benazir Bhutto's bus in 2007 when it was bombed. She has been named Foreign Correspondent of the Year five times and was awarded the Prix Bayeux, Europe's most prestigious award for war reporting. She recently returned to London from Washington where she spent three years as US editor of the Sunday Times of London. She is the author of five books including the bestselling The Africa House; Waiting for Allah, Pakistan's struggle for democracy; and The Sewing Circles of Herat which was runner up in the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers award. The mother of a 13 year old, she cares passionately about education and is a patron of Afghan Connection which sets up schools in Afghanistan and is on the board of Institute of War and Peace Reporting.

    I find it very interesting that there are already two reviews of this book, both negative and both anonymous. Since the book was just released its a bit difficult to accept that they had time to actually READ the book, and even more difficult to accept that they could give it such low marks. This is a story that has to be told and hopefully lead to the capture of those COWARDS who are responsible for the shooting of this brave, little girl.

    I heard about this girl in the news, she is an amazing person in my opinion. I would of never had the guts to stand up for my opinion that is why I think that Malala is an outstanding role-model for any one of any age. Long live Malala!

    I WANT TO READ IT SO BAD

    I read the sample and Malala has such a beautiful way with words that makes you truly see her village and her house and garden. She is very bright and must be very brave to stand up for a woman's education even when a man shoots her for it. She is my role model and a fantastic spirit. She is truly a child of God. AND SHE IS SO PRETTY!!! You would think that after being shot in the left eye, she would need face reconstructing surgery, but she is just gorgeous. I want to read it so bad. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE SAMPLE DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Inspiring book

    At a time when most American girls are interested in gossip, the latest fashions and hair/make-up, Malala wants nothing more than children to have an education. She is an inspiration to women every where. I had not realized Pakistan had been Talibinized like Afghanistan. It amazes and saddens me the know about things men do in times of war. Thank you Malala for speaking out.

    The power of the pen

    What an amazing story! And also, what an amazing father!
