Return from Tomorrow, by George G. Ritchie, is a story of the authors¿ brief yet extremely profound experience with death. Ritchie was pronounced dead at the age of twenty at an Army hospital. Nine minutes later, he was alive. During those few minutes, Ritchie experienced a journey that changed his view of life and death as well as his faith. In this book he tells his story with shocking detail that will make it hard to put down. I will start off by saying that I am not a very religious person, but I found this book to be very interesting. It speaks of a religious experience and explains the authors faith. It does this however without preaching to the reader. It was because of this that I found this book to be so enjoyable. In fact, I even found myself thinking a lot about my own faith. This is a must read for anyone who has questions about life and death, and just exactly what life is all about.

This is one of the most amazing books I've ever read (and I've read a lot of books!). I've always been fascinated with near-death experiences, but this one is different than any accounts I've seen before. Truly profound. Left me thinking about it for days after I read it.

I found this book in 1981 and did not put it down until I had read it from cover to cover. Although very familiar with religious writings and views from hundreds of years ago most of my life - this story was from the 'now', from my life time, from a real and credible witness and it touched me deeply. If there is a Jesus Christ (and of course he is) then he must be just as George Ritchie described him - totally loving and totally accepting of us. The book helped me profoundly when I lost the wife of my youth in 1989. Following her 'death' I must have loaned or given out eighty copies of the original hard cover addition - I just wanted everybody to know of this wonderful experience. One of the most touching experiences Ritchie describes was in the German concentration camp when he met a former Polish lawyer whose family of six the German occupation troops machine gunned and who was so affected by their death that instead of hating his enemies he decided to love everyone he would meet for the rest of his life. As a German immigrant to this wonderful country I felt totally humbled by the love and greatness of this man who so radiated the love of Jesus Christ. My family and I profoundly thank George Ritchie for having the courage to tell his story when such testimonies were not yet accepted by the general public. His book broke down the wall and we are the better for it.

George G. Ritchie¿s Return From Tomorrow is an emotionally inspiring book that will reaffirm any doubts of a spiritual afterlife and a union with God after our time on earth is done. Ritchie¿s story detailing his death and ensuing flight with Jesus through the realms of Hell and concluding with a glimpse of Heaven will force many to reassess their views on life. Through the eyes of this army medical recruit, the reader witnesses both the emptiness and despair of an afterlife devoid of God and the overbearing love and true happiness that can only be experienced when we meet Jesus, as Ritchie did. Ritchie was permitted a glimpse at what was in store for those who committed suicide or who had succumbed to the temptations of vices such as sex and alcohol, an eternity of darkness and undying depravity. Ritchie¿s ability to interpret his encounter with the Son of God can be put into practice in anyone¿s life. Ritchie learned the hard way that we must all try to see the good, the love of God, in everybody we meet. Though this is a struggle that sometimes seems impossible, God is in all people and we will only be fulfilled when we accept God into our lives, through the goodness of others. Finally, we are reminded that we need to have our eyes on the Lord at all times. Many times in our lives, as Ritchie did, we only see a means to an end and forget why we should be doing something. Ritchie reminds us that are time on earth is so invaluably precious and true happiness can be found through cherishing every moment God grants us. A must read!

Best near death story I have ever read and I thank the author for sharing his personal experience with me. I know I will read this more then once and share with others. It is not a preachy story, instead it is a well written message that will stay with you for your remaining years of life. Truly a read worthy of your time.

After reading this, which i would like to believe as true has made me come to a more rounded understanding of 'the other sides.' It's my conception after reading this, that we're 'inbetween.' Living life on Earth is like a sample of your destiny. On Earth, you can know love as well as you can know hate. In the realms that he described as being hell, you only feel negative feelings and hate. In the realms that he described as being heaven you only know positive feelings and love. So it's like on Earth, you have the chance, the opportunity to choose eternity in Heaven or a damned eternity. It can not be one and the other, but we have the chance to expierence one from the other. If temptation overrides our love and faithfulness to God and Jesus(which is one)then therefore we have betrayed him. We've then chosen one over the other. But in fact, if we choose love over hate and believe that Jesus died for our sins so that we could be filled with everlasting love and peace, then we can be accepted with open arms in the gates of heaven. Reading this has made my outlook and perspective change. I believe the words in the this story will stick with me.

Almost a " Christms Carol" adventure of a Near Death experience. The author while in a coma, is taken on a journey, that reveals the possible future for him. His journey is a spiritual one with a window on spiritual life for him. We are all God's children, with indidual roles to fulfill. A fascinating revelation.

I first heard about this book because it was required reading for my religion class. Although we never read it, we had to do a project on a book, and this is the one I chose. As it turns out, it was a great choice! The story in and of itself is worth reading, but the personal insight he has only adds to the inspirational, yet sadly truthful theme of the novel. Because I am only 17, I am greatly unsure of my fate, how I should react to death, and what death will bring. It opened my eyes to the hazards of becoming to preoccupied with physical and earthly pleasures. The effects that these desires and obsessions can haunt one for eternity, and will definitely influence my way of living. It exposed me to so many details about life after death that I could not have possibly taken from the Bible. If I hadn¿t read this wonderful book, I would not know what I needed to do to get to heaven, and my death and afterlife may have been a grim one.

My mother gave me this book that she happens to have had for many years after we had a brief discussion about ghosts and the paranormal. Although this book doesn't address paranormal activity, it gives an interesting explanation as to why people may be 'trapped' here on earth. I don't feel that this book supports any particular religion, particularly LDS as a previous review states. That was that individual's religious affiliation and I don't feel that is appropriate to use this book to support one's religious propaganda. People need to make this decision for themselves. The author refers to the Light as Jesus Christ, but he later on states that he finds this Light in people who don't necessarily believe in Jesus. I am thinking about ordering a few copies of this book to hand out to friends. In particular I am thinking of a friend who is feeling a little unsure of her thoughts on spirituality right now, and I think this will lift her spirits. It is very inspiring no matter what your religious affiliation is, and will move many people to make a positive change in their lives, to stop focusing on themselves and realize that the solution to the problems in this world is to forgive and to love unconditionally.

I read this book 15 or 20 years ago, and this story has not left my mind since. Dr. Ritchie simply tells his story, and for me it fills the void between faith and intellect. 'If you don't love your brother whom you have seen here on earth, how in the world can you say you love the Father whom you've never seen?'

I thought a lot about this book many, many years ago after reading it for the first time. I frequently think about it even now. It stays with you- it has just that kind of affect on you. George Ritchie, a normal guy by all accounts, receives strong, extremely personal testimony that this life is not 'it'. We live in a much bigger world than we think. I have wanted to see this book translated into Spanish for some friends I have, not to mention all others. The honest portrayal of Ritchie's life-after-death experience, of man meeting his Maker, is extraordinary. The reader of this book soon learns that life is a gift and that we should share our gift with everyone (before it might be too late). Give this book as a gift for any loved one who struggles with questions about God or life after death.

This is one book I read over and over. If you don't believe in life after death, you will after reading this book. Your experience may even be life changing, as was mine. Along with Mr. Ritchie's near-death experience, his love for his fellow man comes through and makes you want to be a better person. I would highly recommend Return from Tomorrow.

I suggest anyone who is able to read the English language purchase a copy of this book. Ritchie simply tells his story and automatically the reader is left challenged. After reading this book I saw how valuable my life here on earth is. When he speaks of what is on the other side I felt compelled to love others around me and search for any unforgiveness I held in my heart. I was left with a sense of futility at holding on to any grievances or anything down here. The expeirence changed his life and I have no doubt his retelling of it will change mine.

I have read many books about people who have had near-death experiences. Probably too many. I think maybe I am burned out on them. At any rate, I didn't get very far into this one and I just couldn't go on. Did not finish it & deleted it from my nook. Sorry. It might be just the right book for others, but not for me.
