The server is implemented in Java and is J2EE compliant. It consists of a patent-pending XML repository that can store any valid XML content, a scalable transformation engine, and a rendering engine for any access devices, such as PDAs, WAP phones and PCs. I played a major role in architecturing and developing the Xfinity XML server platform. My contributions included: - Led the development of XStore, B-Bop's patent pending XML storage engine. - Led the development of TREX, industry's first XML query engine that fully utilizes the power of relational database technologies. - Led the database development team that includes DBAs and software developers in the process of business requirements analysis and data modeling. - Developed many components of the platform, such as resource pooling, transaction management, data caching, persistent data objects, database adaptors, data encryption, data transformation engine. - Designed and implemented our build process and software installation and deployment strategies. On top of the Xfinity server platform, B-Bop offers an Investment Research Management (IRM) solution that is ideal for creating, managing and publishing personalized investment research through the web. The IRM solution enables research departments to automate their content management process from authoring (using tools such as MS Word) to storing, searching, publishing and distributing. My major contributions included the design and implementation of database architecture, workflow engine, business objects, application servlets, etc. I also served as a senior consultant for Industry2Industry, a B2B company that provides the industry leading dynamic trading engine. My work included the design and implementation of data access layer, anonymous listing, Request for Quote (RFQ) and code obfuscation. - Informix Software, Menlo Park, CA (01/97 to 06/99) Senior Software Engineer I was a key member in the Chief Technology Office group that was led by the Informix CTO Dr. Mike Stonebraker to provide technology visions and strategies for Informix. One of my major contributions was working with the SQL engine group on the Long Identifiers project. For a long time the Long Identifiers was one of the most requested features from Informix customers. It became the most significant feature improvement for the 9.2 release of the Informix Dynamic Server(IDS). I was the chief engineer that led the group of design and implementation of this highly complex project. I also led the group of design and implementation of the IDS 9.2 migrations. Our work ensured existing Informix databases to be upgraded smoothly and transparently to the new 9.2 server. The Visionary product from Informix provides an innovative solution to the problem of enterprise information access and knowledge discovery. I designed and implemented the entire database access layer for Visionary. The work is done using ODBC and MFC. I also worked on other projects within the CTO group, such as object-relational database benchmarking, Informix middleware strategies, etc. - IBM Almaden Research Center, San Jose, CA (06/96 to 12/96) Research Programmer Garlic is an object-oriented middleware information system for the management of large quantities of heterogeneous, multimedia data. It is capable of presenting all of an enterprise's legacy data as objects in a common data model based on the ODMG standard. My contributions involved the design and implementation of various Garlic components, including: - Added new types and functionalities to the Garlic data language compiler. - Added supporting functions to the Garlic query engine. - Added collection type support using the Standard Template Library. - Implemented a static schema API conforming to the CORBA specifications. - Developed a query regression testing module. - Developed an exception handling module that makes the system more traceable for debugging. - Developed a security module that is responsible for Garlic authentications and authorizations. - Department of Computer Science, University of Wisconsin-Madison (05/95 to 05/96) Research Assistant ZOO is a database management system designed for scientists to manage their experiments. It provides several graphical tools to the user interface, including a graphical schema manager, a graphical query editor, and a visual data mapping tool. My work included: - Developed a visual data mapping tool that lets users capture the mappings between their flat data files and ZOO's object data model. The work was implemented in C++ and TCL/TK. - Developed a data translation unit that translates data between structured database objects and flat text files. - Developed an experiment manager for scientists to manage experiments in the ZOO environment.
