!!ArcGIS This page is important for you to read before attempting to install ArcGIS 9.1 workstation or desktop on any computer. ---- !ArcGIS 9.1 - the most commonly used version (2007) !The DVD's Don't try installing ArcGIS directly off the DVD's. It is slow and it breaks halfway through on the Workstation install. For a local install, copy the WSALL directoy or DT directory off the DVD to the hard drive. The [images|?page=imaging] in room [380] already have both these directories on the desktop under the helpdesk logon account. Alternatively, these directories can be shared from the Helpdesk computer, the [Sephiroth] image server. They are also on the [ISO backup harddrive|?page=Software_Storage], which you can plug in directly to any computer you want to install ARCGIS on. !The installation process When you have the files copied locally or accessed through a mapped drive (just not on DVD): #Log in as the user who will be using the program #Run installation program for either piece of software. #Select Complete Install (for both) and ArcInfo (for desktop). #License Server is [Geddes] (144.92.235.22) !Post installation *Let it run the installations for crystal reports, tutorials and documentation *Download and Install Service Pack 2 from www.esri.com *Run Hecras (it needs to see setup.msi) *Run ArcMap (test plugins from the toolbox, they crash before with [IE 7 patch|?page=software_issues]) *Restart the computer and run ArcMap. *Login as someone else and run ArcMap *Install update for Crystal Reports (then turn off automatic updates in install shield control panel) !Licensing problems If you are experiencing licensing problems, [VNC|?page=useful_software] in to 144.92.235.22 and check out the firewall situation (If you can't VNC in, that's a pretty good sign of firewall problems). Don't mess with the [license|?page=licenses] manager, it is a very obtuse piece of equipment and not something worth futzing with. If you cannot get it to work at first, you can always install without a license and set it up in Desktop Administrator later. ---- !ArcGIS 9.2 - the version most commonly used by Joe Mason Apparently Prof. Mason got it to work, I have never seen a working copy of ArcGIS 9.2 and I don't think that the [license server|?page=geddes] is set up to run it properly. !Note ArcGIS 9.2 is the only version that will work with Windows Vista (Install the service pack).
