!EdGCM EdGCM is the climate modeling software which Jack Williams has his class use to predict the effects of different molecules in the air. The class requires special consideration on our parts, as it will be your duty to work with him to help his students run their modeling simlations on lab machines in m376. !Installation EdGCM can be downloaded from http://edgcm.columbia.edu/ and installs quickly. However, in order for the data to stick you must install the software in an [unfrozen|?page=security] drive. As well as disable [deepfreeze|?page=security] so that the computers won't automatically shut themselves off each night while the simulations are being run. Black Antech computers should have a >=20 Gig. partition to store the initial data and created models. Grey Antech computers were also used when they were the main m379 computer. However, they only have 40 gigabyte hard drives, so the computers which ran EdGCM generally had extra hard drives installed. Therefore, there may be some Grey Antech computers with extra hard drives floating around for the next few years. ---- There are additional files you may need to update occasionally, Jack should have you download them from [Mamaduck]. EdGCM runs in the 4D environment (Which can be downloaded and upgraded separately, but doesn't need to be). EdGCM has a model viewer program EVA which displays and queries the results of the simulation. In 2006, EVA was improperly updated and caused data not to display properly. Make sure there is only one copy of EdGCM installed on any given machine.
