!ITC Printer Manager Software ITC is a european company so the timestamps they put on log files are confusing. !!Setup of Print Manager !But first, a warning: Setting up Print Manager is best done on weekends or with a spare computer, never monkey with the settings while people are in the labs. Installation requires a randomly generated key, which can only be obtained by calling ITC every time you install the software (instructions to follow) ---- !Preinstallation: Install Netbios in the network control panel. Print Manager uses it to connect to itself. Set up a shared network drive for log files and install these proper permissions: *Helpdesk (Normal password) **(Can modify all printer settings) *Root (password should be secure) **(The account that automatically logs on, has complete control over all printers) *Administrator (password blank) **(Can print to hold queues, cannot see release queues) Plus permissions as according to the individual servers. ---- Set up the printers as in the other sections #[iespserv] #[gispserv] #[mlpserv] ---- The print manager software on a CD labeled ITC print manager, as well as on the [ISO backup harddrive|?page=ISO_BACKUP], there is also a CD with documentation, which is indespensible since the documentation on the internet requires a password we don't have. ---- Install the software on the computer normally. You will have to call ITC to register the software (1-800 650 7772) generally they won't respond right away and will call you back with the Serial Number, be prepared to leave a message. ---- !Setup Starting out, the username will be ITC and the password ITC, change this to username = printserver, password = ******** and get rid of the ITC account. ---- Type ctrl-shift-alt-e and enter the username and password to get into the control panel. In queue manager, set the hold and release queues for each printer. Set the prices .07 for black and white .35 for color. ---- In the "other settings" menu, specify the log file directory that you shared out to the appropriate person in charge getting money for the print cards. Make sure that the log file only has pertinient data, such as date printed and money debited, and that the date is printed in the standard American format. ---- !Other issues The card readers are older than most of the computers and fail frequently. They get recycled through the library system. The only thing they don't seem to fail at is communicating with the computer they are hooked up to, be thankful for that! !Free print If you see a problem or know that someone had been ripped off. You can press ctrl-shift-alt-f and activate free printing for a short period of time. This is also the normal way to give refunds to people who complain when we are not around.
