!Nelson Administration The Nelson institute is a self-contained graduate studies program, therefore there are a lot of people involved in getting people matched up with degrees working in Science Hall. You'll quickly notice that the staff to faculty ratio seems very even. However, there are over 150 faculty members on campus associated with the Nelson Institute, most of whom do not have offices in Science Hall. !Admissions office (room 70) Mary, Mark, Danielle, Sara, Sue, Pete and Jim all live here. Mary Mercer is probably the friendliest person in this side of campus, but she uses and old version of Word Perfect. Danielle Lamberson-Phillip is having a baby soon and will be out of commission for a while. She's the receptionist and may be takign over Sara's job if she moves up or out. Sara Lawrence has sort of embedded herself in the Nelson Institute by being the only person who really "understands" the grad student database. If you happen to be a CS Major and can help normalize the [database|?page=atlas], she's all yours. Sue Fafard always has some interesting tasks, she adopted the mac mini, but it still is named "Danielle's computer". She's the person we used to turn our time sheets in to. This room is always an interesting place to go and if you're bored, they can generally find something for you to do. Here is a list of your most popular tasks: *Fix the [Database|?page=atlas] connections. *Figure out how Sue's GPS works or revive her PDA. *Get somebody's computer to print to somebody else's printer. *Move the scanner to someone else's desk. *Eat left-over cookies from last weeks symposium. !Main Office (room 122) Andy, Eileen, Hope, Alice and the interns are all here. They have the same problems as the folks in room 70, but less free food. The director of the Nelson Institute, Dr. Frances Westley, will be leaving in Fall of 2007, she was one of our biggest customers. Alice Halfen is in charge of [Kronos] for student hourly's, if you forget your password, she's the one to turn to. Andy Wetzel is a pretty good guy with 4 kids. He may give you the business from time to time, but he's just doing his job and by extension making sure you're doing yours! Eileen and Hope are very helpful and friendly. Hope Simon is a Engineer who wound up in student services. The interns need computer support from time to time. ---- The printer/copier is in the closet directly to your left when entering the office. It is networked on IP address 144.92.235.97. However, nobody uses this copier as a printer, and we have been keen on respecting their decision (as they are notoriously difficult to support). If you are asked to install it, the drivers are available from gordonflesch.com !Other folks Tom Sinclair has his office down by the ground floor entrance on the basement level. He usually calls regarding broken computers in the computer pods nearby his office. He needs to be able to print to the IESPSERV printers. His computer has a very strange setup with non-functioning raid disks. He likes to make backups of his data frequently and has a different backup software installed which uses scheduled tasks. Carol Enseki will probably try to remember your name and then forget it a bunch of times, but she means well. She is often plagued by bad network connections. She also needs to be able to print to the color printer in the library.
