Geddes is the license server for the Geography Department. 
!Current Licenses
As of (2007) It has licenses for ArcGIS 9.1, ArcGIS 9.2 and Erdas Imagine 9.1.  The Licenses are each 100 seat licenses, which means that at any given time 100 computers may have the same piece of software open.  
!Problems with the License Server
The firewall on the License Server may be an issue, the software [firewall|?page=firewalls] should be set up to keep anyone from outside of the 144.92.235.255 subnet from getting a license. 
Hopefully this will be moved inside the Cisco Pix firewall soon.
If installing a program that requires a served license doesn't work initially, you can try turning off the firewall temporarily as a diagnostic measure, it generally works and subsequently doesn't stop working when you turn the firewall back on.
