!!Various Printer Issues This is the page where recurrent problems and quick fixes should be listed for printers. ![M376] and [Nelson Library|?page=Nelson_Library] Dell Color Printers Dell printer occasionally fails to print documents over 50 megabytes. Have the person trying to print save what they're printing (generally a large map at a high resolution) as a PDF file, then print. Sometimes the Dell printer needs to be cleaned, there is a brush attachment you can access by opening up the front panel and pulling on the plastic handle on the right side of the printer. Occasionally the printer stops working altogether. Go to the maintenance menu on the printer menu panel and select Init NVRAM. This will clear whatever is blocking documents from printing !HP 2100 in Nelson Library Will not print if someone bumps the plastic tray. !OKIData Printer in [room 70|?page=Nelson_Administration] There were two identical Okidata printers, but the LCD display on one died in Spring 2007 and was replaced by the Lexmark. The remaining OKIdata has a tendency to not print in duplex, to be installed with Spanish drivers and even had an ASCII off-by-one printing problem. !Printers in [Nelson Grad Student Office|?page=Nelson_Administration] These printers are hooked up to an old print server, which requires special drivers to be installed for setting up the ports, it's pretty self explanatory, but you cannot do anything without the drivers, which are on Linksys's website. !Printers in [SCO] 4th floor office. These printers once had a print server that made the most awful squealing sound, I wrapped it in a sound proof box which Paul's mom used to ship his laptop here from San Diego. The print server they have now, is nicer, if you press a button on the print server while a printer is plugged into it, it will print its configuration settings, which you can use to set up other functions through a web browser. !Printer in Paleovegetation Lab This HP LaserJet is networked and duplexes, it has a static IP address of 144.92.235.25. There is special software for OSX and Windows which needs to be installed in order to automatically pick up the printer. It does not like to be set up the normal way (through TCP/IP) the HP software available from HP.com (download the bigger files) will automatically seek out and set up the printer. If it does not find it, try pinging the printers IP address or netbios name ("paleovegetation") !Printing for Helpdesk Paul was gracious enough to hook his printer up in the office for us to print with. If you have to print somewhere else, make sure you change back whatever settings you changed to secure and don't waste too much paper. The HP 2100 in the lab has an IP address of 144.92.235.26. Occasionally this printer will print stuff when you least expect it, so check it out, it might be trying to tell you something. !Epson Printers Epson inkjet printers seize up and stop working after laying idle for more than a few weeks. If you try to fix them, you will get very, very messy. see also ( [Mac Printing|?page=mac_printing] )
