Storyline
A six-year-old boy witnesses mobsters beat his father to death. Twenty years later, the now-grown boy begins to track down and eliminate the men who did it, determined to wipe out the entire gang. "Summertime Killer" has some terrific motorcycle chases and stunt work. It has the striking Olivia Hussey and the always solid acting of Karl Malden. Chris Mitchum fills the role of a Basques man seeking revenge on Vallone and his buddies who killed his family many years earlier. Malden is an American detective hired to locate Mitchum. Vallone's activity is much more limited than Malden's.
My copy was from a cable channel and had most of the dialog dubbed, but not all. I probably missed some critical plot points that would have aided the continuity. Otherwise, the movie did come across as somewhat disjointed and lacking in solid forward motion arising from its conflicts. Its love affair was fairly predictable. The ending was unpredictable.
It's a reasonable eurocrime affair that is closest to the poliziotesschi genre, which is where I saw its name listed before hunting for it. I see it as more or less an average entry in this genre, but that still makes it okay in my book.
