Storyline

David is an old prisoner, released after twenty-four years in a penitentiary for a crime he hasn't committed. The three men who framed him and sent him away, are now prominent citizens of his town. David walks out of the prison straight into a confessional booth at his church. He tells the priest that he is about to kill three prominent men, for which he seeks God's pardon in advance. He must find his old friend, bootlegger and the custodian of David's only son. David had believed in his friend to bring up his son as the worst criminal and seek revenge from the men who put him away. On meeting him, David finds that his son is a Cop instead. Devastated, David continues on his own. When he is about to kill the three men, his son has vowed to protect the citizens under any circumstances. David and his son are at war, personally and the smarter of the duo would win. Written by Anonymous

Trivia

Producer Poorna Chandra had been asking south Indian film director K Bhagyaraj (whose several south Indian films had been remade into Hindi films) to direct a Hindi film, after the producer persisting several times, K Bhagyaraj gave an outline first. Poorna Chandra liked the story so much that he wanted him to write a screenplay and give it to him. Initially the story was made into a Tamil film by Bharatiraja based on this script, Oru Kaithiyin Diary (1984) with Kamal Hassan. Poorna Chandra was adamant of making the Hindi version with Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabh was brought to Chennai for the story narration, he liked it. But was a little doubtful about the directors ability to direct an action film, as he had done only family oriented subjects, after some discussion Amitabh agreed and signed on. See more »

Brilliant...Amitabh at his Best
10 June 2006 | by (London) – See all my reviews

Aakhree Raasta is a basic story about revenge. 25 years After being released from prison for the Rape of his wife that he did not commit. Amitabh goes on a quest of Revenge on the three men responsible. Stopping him from these murders and threats are his very own son. His son also played by Amitabh Bachchan is not aware that this man who has threatened to kill these 3 mens is actually his father. This is an enjoyable Police action drama. The older Amitabh delivers a very powerful performance as the emotionally angry old man, hungry for revenge. The movie also Stars the very Talented Sri devi, who was the Top actress at the time. The films weakness would be some of the unnecessary flashbacks and slow pacing. The movie is almost 3 hours long and could do with a lot of editing. The movie still succeeds in entertaining. Just Another Amitabh Classic not to be missed.
