Trivia

According to an on-line interview with MTV, Jean-Claude Van Damme was originally offered the role of Guile for Fox's Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009). He would've been the only original cast member to reprise the role for the Street Fighter reboot, but Van Damme turned down their offer. After the theatrical release of "The Legend of Chun-Li", which was intended to be better and more successful than the Jean-Claude Van Damme "Street Fighter", "The Legend of Chun-Li" actually made less money at the box office than "Street Fighter" and was considered by many fans and critics as a worse film than the original 1994 "Street Fighter" movie. Goofs

Look closely after Colonel Guile jumps down from General M. Bison's hovering desk. When Guile lands on the ground, he is seen from his right side with his back to the camera, and he knocks Bison down with a kick. In the very next shot, when Guile says "Come on" to Bison, Guile is in the same spot, but he's now suddenly seen from his left side with his front to the camera without moving. In the very next shot, Guile is seen with his back to the camera again when he knocks Bison back down with another kick. See more »

"This is merely superconductor electromagnetism. Surely you've heard of it?"
18 May 2014 | by (USA) – See all my reviews

This movie suffers from the same problem as most video game or comic book adaptations in the '90s. The people making it just don't take the source material seriously so the whole thing comes across as one big garish cartoon with no attempt at characterizations or an intelligent plot. It's supposedly for teenagers and adults but it's intellectually on a level only pre-teen children can enjoy. There is some entertainment here, but only in that disreputable "so bad it's good" guilty pleasure way. Most of the actors ham it up, particularly a slumming Raul Julia in his last film. Jean-Claude Van Damme is about what you expect, only with ridiculous dyed blonde hair. I did enjoy Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li but the rest are lame. This is also the disappointing film directorial debut of Steven E. de Souza, who had written the screenplays of some of the '80s best actioners. He also wrote this mess but unfortunately it's missing much of the wit that Die Hard, Commando, or Running Man had.
