[NEWS] Weigang quits Vietnam
Monday Mar 31, 1997: Vietnam's national soccer coach quits
Hanoi (Reuter) - Vietnam's national soccer coach, Karl-Heinz Weigang,
has resigned over contractual disagreements with the country's
Football Federation (VFF).
The popular German signed a three-year contract with the VVF in 1995
but has been in and out of disputes ever since.
``Due to the many circumstances and the very deep divergences in the
professional relationship between VFF and me, I would like to
terminate our agreement...'' he wrote in a letter which appeared in
newspapers.
VVF Secretary General Tran Bay told Reuters on Monday he had tried,
but failed, to persuade the 62-year-old coach not to quit.
Details of the disagreements were not available.
Earlier this month Weigang said he had been offered contracts in
Malaysia and Singapore but had signed nothing. The daily Vietnam News
said Weigang had also denied a report that he would move to Malaysian
premiership side Perak.
Under Weigang the Vietnamese side took the silver medal at the
Southeast Asia Games in 1995.
