Microsoft-FPT cooperation

Microsoft and FPT have signed on April 19 a cooperation memorandum,
according to which Microsoft will support the establishment of a software
technology center in Hanoi. Microsoft and FPT will also co-organize the
International Forum on Solution Development Based on Microsoft Platforms.

Vietnamese IT specialists favor copyright protection

According to Mr. Mr. Tran Ha Nam, director of the HCMC-based computer
service company Scitec, all 10 multimedia products of his companies have
been illegally copied for mass sales.  Mr. Tran Ha Nam said, in order to
fight copyright violation, CD makers have to lower prices, and call the
Government to provide incentives, such as preferential tax policy, for
domestic software producers. 

First Vietnamese Newspaper on CD-ROM

The first issue of Saigon News Video Magazine on CD-ROM was officially
introduced on Apr 19.  This first newspaper on CD-ROM in Vietnam is
published by Saigon News Video Magazine and Scitec Informatic Technology
Company in HCMC. In addition to articles on education, economy, law, etc.,
it has many illustrations, video films and music.  According to Mr. Tran
Ha Nam, the CDROM is expected to be published every three months. 

Hewlett Packard and Lac Viet introduce internship for IT students in VN

At the inauguration day of Hewlett Packard's main office in HCMC on Apr
18, Mr. Bob Hughes, general director of HP Vietnam Company, said this year
Hewlett Packard Vietnam Company will invite senior Vietnamese students to
practice and work in an internship program co-organized by HP and Lac Viet
Informatics Company. HP and Lac Viet will annually select senior
Vietnamese students of informatics and financial business departments of
universities nationwide for this program. This year, the program will
receive 12 students in HCMC, who will practice in the two companies for
six to nine months with a monthly salary of US$100, said Mr. Ha Than,
director of Lac Viet. In the coming years, the program will receive
students from other regions of VN.
