Prejudice in music

Hello Vu,

It's gonna be my third message of the day. Hope I don't waste the time
of our list members. Please PgDn if you're not into this thread. The reason
I'm writing this is because you will be leaving us very soon, so
hopefully you can still catch my message in time. And of course, have
a safe and pleasant trip to our homeland! It must be quite an experience
for you after 10 years in exile!

> Thanh, I'm so suprised! Everybody who knows me also knows that if
> prejudice is London, then I must be Tokyo!

Don't get me wrong, my friend! I didn't mean to condemn you for being
prejudicial, but rather I just wanted to give you a friendly advice,
maybe a warning if you think so. If you are proud of your open mind,
if you think you are listening to cool music while other poor guys
don't even touch it, then stop and think! Music is a fortune for all
of us; dig into it, find the gems and enjoy them and introduce them to
your friends. You can certainly explore all of your life, and that's a
wonderful thing to do. Don't ever, ever stop and say you know everything,
and understand everything.

Let take me as an example. Fifteen years ago, I said in a firm voice
with typical adolescent enthusiasm "ABBA was the best". Ten years ago I said
"Well, ABBA is okay but Modern Talking was really the king". Then seven years
ago, I made a big switch and was so proud to say out loud "I am the biggest
Beatles fan ever lived on this planet". Two years later Pink Floyd was the only
band I could ever imagine of. But then came Led Zeppelin, and that was to me
the ideal musicianship, and so on and so on. Today if you ever asked me the banal
question "Who is the best for you", I would say after a long pause "Well, I don't
know ...", and I'm serious. And that's a beautiful thing to enjoy
different kinds of music. Not to mention the joy of discovering new music,
new bands, new faces!

> Maybe I'm too ignorant, but I've never heared of such terms as Italian
> rock!

Have you heard of Russian rock, French rock, and so on? There is a rock
music, without any need for being classified as in a dictionary.
My dear friend, when you're back, I can certainly give you some
Italian delicacies for you own pleasant listening!

Good luck,

-Thanh
