Information highway in Dong Thap Muoi

In an attempt to establish an information highway in Dong
Thap Muoi (the Plain of Reeds), Long An Province Post
Office will install an optic cable network to replace the
current digital microwave transmission system.

The underground optic cable network will be about 70km
from Tan An Municipality to Moc Hoa District. A high
capacity switchboard will be set up in Moc Hoa with a
maximum capacity of 250,000 numbers. Upon completion, Moc
Hoa Post Office will regulate the information transmission
for the whole region.

Between these two centers, there will be branches to link
Thanh Hoa and Tan Thanh districts with this optic cable
network. In Tan An Municipality, the local optic cable
network will be connected with national and international
networks. The cost for installing this optic cable network
is estimated to reach VND90 billion.

As planned, the provincial information transmission system
will be replaced by the optic cable by the year 2000. The
technical feasibility study and scheme to mobilize capital
are now underway.
