Budget for science and technology increases 10%

The budget for science and technology this
year will increase by 10% over 1996, and called for more
interest in social and human sciences, according to Deputy
Prime Minister Nguyen Khanh at recent science conference.

The conference aimed to discuss measures to implement
scientific and technological development strategy to the
years 2005, 2010 and 2020; and to consult participants'
opinions about the draft Law on Science and Technology to
be submitted to the National Assembly by 1998.

Mr. Khanh said that the scientific and technological
development strategy must be built in compliance with
socio-economic development strategy and must be the
premise for economic development.
