Dear friends,
It is said that american's most popular games are football, baseball,
basketball and hockey. I don't know
about you guys, but to me, baseball is a stupid game. The only skill
that you have to master is to hit the ball, the harder the better. Then
it is important that you drop the bat right where you are and start
running around the stadium, waving hands with fans. Basketball seems even
more popular, everybody is crazy about Michael Jordan and the Bulls.
In this game, there are three periods, each team takes turn to throw a
ball into each other's tiny "basket" and so the score can sometimes rises up
to above 100 points! But this is where i don't get it. I mean what's the
point of playing hours long of basketball wherea the entire game is
determined just only in the last five, maybe 4 minutes. Football seems to
be pretty exciting, but the rules are too complicated.
So what about hockey? I LOVE hockey: checking,... hooking ... "icing"!!!
My favorite team is the Red Wings. It's not just because i live in
Detroit, but also because they have five Russian players. I knew Fetisov
since i was about 12 years old. We don't play hockey in VN, but those folks
who lived in Hanoi could watch a hockey game in the Russian TV channel. I
still remmeber the great Red Army team (CSKA?) in the late 80', the
memorable world cup final between the Soviet Union and Canada where i first
learned of the name Wayne Gretzky (sp?) ...
