[FROM ADMIN] AN EXPERIMENTAL MAIL FILTER FOR NEWS, LITERATURE, AND JOKES
Dear friends,
We have set up a server filter that allows those VNSA members who wish to
receive ONLY news-, literature-, and joke-related VNSA postings to do so.
-----------------------------------------------
To use this filter, simply send a message to LISTSERV@CSD.UWM.EDU (Please DO
NOT send this message to vnsa-l@csd.uwm.edu). The subject line of the message
should be empty, and the body of the message should contain only the
following three lines:
unsubscribe vnsa-l
subscribe vnsa-l your_name_here news
set vnsa-l mail postpone
------------------------------------------------
For example, if I were to use this filter service, I would send a message
to listserv@csd.uwm.edu with the following three lines:
unsubscribe vnsa-l
subscribe vnsa-l AnHai Doan news
set vnsa-l mail postpone
Please note the presence of the word "news" at the end of line two. This
word tells the VNSA server that it should send only postings in the
"news" category to your mailbox.
You can expect the filter to start working for you within 24 hours. Once
the filter starts, you will receive only postings that contain news (in
both English and Vietnamese), poems, stories, and jokes. You can expect
to receive between 5 to 15 such postings per day. (So if you simply want
to LIMIT the number of VNSA messages, using this filter is NOT a good
option for you; use the digest mode instead.)
You will still be able to post to VNSA by sending your messages to
vnsa-l@csd.uwm.edu. More detailed information on how the filter works, and
how you can target different VNSA audiences will be given in subsequent
admin postings.
This is an *experimental* service. So please bear with us if once in a while
you (who use the service) notice some glitches in your VNSA mail delivery.
Please do notify us of such glitches. Any credit go to the entire admin team
who worked hard over the weekend coming up with and discussing the idea. The
sole person responsible for technical glitches is I, and so all mails
concerning such issues should be sent to anhai@cs.washington.edu.
If the service turns out to be working well, similar filters on other
topics will be implemented.
Good luck, and we are looking forward to your comments and feedback.
On the behalf of the admin board,
AnHai Doan.
