Vietnam To Issue Decree Against White Slavery

Hanoi  (Bernama)  --  Authorities  here  will  issue  a  decree  on
measures  to  prevent  illegal  transport  of  women  and  children  abroad
nextmonth,  ahead  of  a  crackdown  on  organisations  involved  in  white
slavery,official  reports  said  today.<p>
      The  Vietnam News  said  authorities  are  planning  a  crackdown  on
firmsarranging  marriages  between  Vietnamese  and  foreigners  and
prostitutionprocurement  by  companies  disguised  as  tourist  agencies.<p>
      The  campaign  was  part  of  a  number  of  measures  proposed  by
Deputy  PrimeMinister  Nguyen  Khanh  aimed  at  stopping  the  trafficking
of  Vietnamese  womenand  children  overseas  for  prostitution,  it  said.<p>
      Khanh,  who  had  directed  the  Interior  Ministry  and  the  Foreign
AffairsMinistry  to  find  out  the  number  of  women  and  children
trafficked  out  toCambodia,  China  and  elsewhere,  also  called  for
stiffer  penalties  for  suchcrimes.<p>
      In  a  similar  report,  the  Lao  Dong  (Workers')  daily  said  the
authoritiesmust  have  a  programme  to  solve  the  problem  of  Vietnamese
women  and  childrenworking  in  brothels  in  Cambodia.<p>
      The  daily  said  the  Prime  Minister's  Office  will  issue  a
decree  nextmonth  on  measures  to  prevent  the  illegal  transportation
of  Vietnamese
abroad.
