The Ministry of Culture and Information joined with the Republic of
Korea Embassy in Vietnam to organize a RoK Film Week from June 28 to
July 2 in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City.
On the 50th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, the Movies
Department will organize a series of screenings in all cities and
provinces from July 25 to August 1. The films to be shown are: Dong Loc
Crossroads, The Warmth of Attachment, Waning Moon, and Stamp of the
Century.
”Painters, post stamps and paintings“ was the name of an exhibition
celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the Vietnam Stamp Company. The
event ran from June 25 to July 3, at 29 Hang Bai Exhibition Hall in
Hanoi. More than 1,000 stamps were on display presenting the land and
people of Vietnam through the years.
”Stage Fans,“ a club jointly organized by Voice of Vietnam’s Literature
and Art Commission and Vietnam Television had its monthly meeting on
July 2. The club is not only meant to raise the understanding and
enjoyment of art, but is also a place for stage fans to meet. The
programme was broadcast on the Voice of Vietnam Radio and VTV3.
The Army Gymnastics and Sports Bureau has announced its 1997 Pan-army
Gymnastics and Sports Competition to be held in the 9th Army Zone from
November 22 to 26. The event will consist of seven sports: shot put,
long jump, 4 x 400m relay race, volley ball, 10km cross country,
shooting, and swimming.
Nguyen Lan Trung, head of Vietnam’s U22 football delegation says that
Malaysia is planning a four-nation U22 tournament later in the year to
include Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam.
The 6th Samsung International Taekwondo Tournament — Vietnam ‘97 will be
held at the Hanoi Sports Centre from July 18 to 20. Some 150 athletes
from 11 countries and territories will compete, including: Vietnam,
Thailand, Laos, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal,
Azerbaijan, England and China.
A pre-SEA Games under-19 women’s football cup will be held in Kuala
Lumpur from 26 to 31 July. Four teams: Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and
Vietnam are to compete. Following the cup, the Vietnam team will go to
Canton in China for a two-month training course.
After six days of hard competition at the Van Phuc tennis court (Hanoi),
the ‘97 National Young Tennis Cup wound up on June 28. The army team
proved its superiority, winning 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Eight teams have qualified to the final round of the National Junior
Football Cup: Khanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Quang Ninh,
Da Nang, Nghe An, and Hanoi. The final match will take place on July 6.
The winning team will take home a cup worth 10 million dong.
After three days of competition, the Ho Chi Minh City Athletic Cup wound
up on June 29. Vietnam won with 33 medals (14 gold, 12 silver, 7
bronze).
