Vietnam Font
Hi all,
Since ba'c Dzung talk about vietnam font. I would like to bring
this up. Currently there are many fonts "standards" in Vietnam and none
of them (as I know) is dominant. Currently, the world is moving toward
Unicode(16 bit character). This include Windows 95, NT, and Java
environment. I assume that is what we are going to next and have a
chance to unify our font set(so that I don't have to load different
fonts) everytime I go to a Vietnamese web page :-(
So to me Unicode is the way to go. But then even in here,
there are some debates on what the fon't design should be. here is
an argument from one friend in Vietstd group sent to me. Please tell me
what you think.

I am also for Unicode.
(Stuff deleted)...I would like to mention to you that there are two ways to
encode Vietnamese in Unicode. The superior method which we have fought
for at the Unicode meetings back in 89 is the precomposed character
encoding. In this method, each Vietnamese char is encoded with accents.
For example, e^~ in Nguye^~n is one character. However, in Unicode, you
also can compose the three separate Unicode characters e, ^ and ~ to
make the e^~ vowel in Vietnamese. We (the VietStd group) would like to
see precomposed Vietnamese encoding in Unicode, because this make
Vietnamese application automatically compatible with the rest Western
application. Otherwise, most of the legacy and may be future applications
do not provide extra support for composing characters and fonts.

Thanks for your feedback, it will be helpful for those who design
fonts.
