45 Years should not just be the name for this film it should be the viewers' age recommendation. I was hesitant watching this film but curious as it did have some good reviews. As a man in my mid twenties I had nothing in common with the characters and quickly regretted my decision. I seriously would suggest avoiding 45 Years unless you can relate to a long strained marriage.
It is not just my background that made it hard to be engaged by the film, it is heavily reliant on good acting and natural filming. To an extent this does work and if you can relate to the characters it might have been mildly interesting. The acting is great, the wife played by Charlotte Rampling is particularly convincing. However, the plot is limited and as I keep referring to the film is essentially a limited examination of the married couple's personalities as they build up to their 45 wedding anniversary.
The part of the story line I was most fascinated by did not get depicted on screen but on the positive if you really pay attention every 30 minutes (roughly 3 times in the film) there is a subtle joke that might make the under 45 audience laugh. For those over that age, you may back up the good reviews this film has had and might enjoy a film accurately depicting issues that you or your friends might be going through.
