The film is set during the mighty Tang Dynasty-period in Chinese history. Nie Yinniang returns to family after several years in exile. The mission of her order is to eliminate the tyrany of the Governors who avoid the authority of the Emperor. Now she will have to choose between sacrificing the man she loves, or break definitively with the "order of the Assassins". Written by Martin Matevosyan
Also saw this film at the New Zealand Film Festival. It was a painful experience sitting through this film hoping that it was going to end prematurely.
The story line (i.e. the subbed English version) made little sense. I struggled with the exorbitant amount of time spent holding shots. It made for horrendously boring viewing.
The costume/set design was the only redeeming feature. Costume/set was absolutely gorgeous although I would have appreciated seeing those same costume/sets within about 10 minutes. Extending it over 100 minutes was not fun.
