I like Joe Carnahan. He brings a lot of style and energy to his movies even his recent downer The Grey. This time around, he is tackling those "one crazy night where everything can happen" type of movies with plenty of oddball characters and wacky situations. While we have seen this plot line done before, Carnahan thankfully has fun with it and brings a lot of energy to the movie making it a fun ride.
Good: I like the crazy scenarios they had here. You get plenty of wackos, gangsters, cops, boobs, and violence. It's all things we have seen, but the cast make it work. Patrick Wilson is great as the everyday man trying to get by this crazy night. Alba even turns in a good performance as Wilson's co-worker. Ed Helms has a funny role and Chris Pine is utterly insane here. The humor hits the mark most of the time and it moves at a fast pace with plenty of jokes and action to keep things moving with some lampooning of Hollywood thrown in there.
Bad: It is derivative of other films like it so it is not groundbreaking. It is also surprisingly very predictable as I thought Carnahan was going to maybe shake it up a little bit in regards to the story.
Overall, despite its predictability, it is a very fun time to be had with wacky humor and a tinge of sarcasm.
