Perhaps due to the young filmmaker's fresh interaction with NYU's film school curriculum and energetic appraisal of the great films that comprised his studies, "Praying With Anger" is, in many ways, M. Night Shyamalan's greatest film. Though certainly it's not the best demonstration of his technical brilliance ("Unbreakable" does that), it establishes him as a gifted storyteller and one who wants desperately to tell dramatic stories (not cheap thrills as some would venomously claim). "Praying" can best be described, in narrative terms, as an existentialist story, but without the jaded sensibilities of post-modernism. It's a real shame this film is unattainable. I'm very disappointed in Shyamalan for not making it accessible for those of us who admire his work. Hopefully, he'll make it available to us sometime in the near future so you won't have to take anyone's word for it.
