Chapter 2, Jana

This picture is from the BBQ that Katharina, Heike, Jana, and I had together the first week I was in Germany. Jana and Heike's arrival was a surprise. I didn't know how much I was going to get to visit Jana on this trip, so I was overjoyed when they showed up on this weekend. I recall that on the way she had some car trouble and her mother's car engine overheated and was destroyed. I was sad and excited to see her and Heike drive off after the BBQ in a tow truck; sad because they were leaving, but excited because I made plans to stay with Jana the next weekend.

I arrived in Radebeul by train from Leipzig on Friday afternoon, after getting back from the long Amsterdam trip. On Friday night Jana and I went to a vineyard and climbed a big hill called Spitzhausturm. We watched the sunset on top of the hill, where we had a beautiful view of Dresden below and all around.

On Saturday we went to some kings summer palace (called Schloss Moritzburg). On our way to Moritzburg we took an old traditional train named Loessnitzdackel. The castle sat between two small lakes in a large wooded area. We took a tour of this palace. It had a most magnificant dining room with hundreds of deer trophies.

We continued around the castle. Here in the rear there was a lush garden that we strolled though; without a care in the world. I thought it would be comical if I would do a little 'Forest Gump' wave at the camera.

We walked around one of the lakes. In this picture I think we are about halfway around the lake. Jana wanted a picture with some ducks.

I took this not far from the ducks. Its a nice view of the castle on the lake. When we finished strolling around the castle we got some ice cream and went and sat on a bench on the shore of the other lake. We sat and talked for many hours. I can't quite remember, but I think we rode our bikes all the way back to Jana's place (perhaps she can correct me if I am wrong, and if she is speaking to me).

On Sunday we went to Elbsandsteingebirge (limestone hills). We took a train and a ferry across the Elbe to get there; such good memories I have along the Elbe; amazing to think it flooded the town soon after I left, and where I had been was 30 feet under water. On the way up I made Jana stop and rest often; this time there happened to be another person to take a picture of us. I notibly also recall hearing the Japanese tourists in front of us Yoddling on the way up. I tried to get it on tape, but missed it.

This is a bend in the Elbe, as we look left from the cliff.

This is the Elbe from the other direction.

This is the view of the landscape straight out from the cliff.
