    DISAPPOINTMENT

I found the book to be more elementary than I thought it should be. I want to write some of the code myself not just read about how great their programming skill is - this was a textbook with no workbook included. The checkwriter application did work (as opposed to other book/CD combos I have had). I was not impressed with the overall form of the book. If this were to be used in a high school setting, which the authors apparently did, then it MIGHT be OK. As I said, I was not impressed.

    Does not deliver as promised...

While the CD-ROM software may have crashed, this book hardly qualifies as a course. I was expecting a detailed step by step set of hands on exercises but met 30 half-hour reading assignments instead. By the time I got to the part of the book where the supplied software was needed, it was uninstallable and unrunnable on my machine. I went to their website and found a newer version, but found no mention of errata or problems with the version supplied with the book. The new version of the database would not run either. Avoid this book if you are looking for a standard tutorial with lots of examples that you can work yourself. I would highly recommend the Wrox series by Sussman and Smith - Beginning Access 2000 VBA
