Meet the Author

Michael R. Groh is a well-known author, writer, and consultant specializing in Windows database systems. His company, PC Productivity Solutions, provides information-management applications to companies across the country. Over the last 25 years, Mike has worked with a wide variety of programming languages, operating systems, and computer hardware, ranging from programming a DEC PDP-8A using the Focal interpreted language to building distributed applications under Visual Studio .NET and Microsoft SharePoint.
Mike was one of the first people outside of Microsoft to see Access in action. He was among a select group of journalists and publishers invited to preview the Access 1.0 beta (then called Cirrus) at the 1992 Windows World Conference in Chicago. Since then, Mike has been involved in every Microsoft Access beta program, as an insider and as a journalist and reporter documenting the evolution of this fascinating product.
Mike has authored parts of more than 20 different computer books and is a frequent contributor to computer magazines and journals. Mike has written more than 200 articles and editorials over the last 15 years, mostly for Advisor Media (San Diego, CA). He frequently speaks at computer conferences virtually everywhere in the world, and is technical editor and contributor to periodicals and publications produced by Advisor Media.
Mike holds a master’s degree in Clinical Chemistry from the University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA) and an MBA from Northeastern University (Boston, MA).

Joseph C. Stockman is an independent consultant, software designer, and author who has been using Microsoft Access since its initial release. Gavin Powell is a computer consultant and a writer, with over 20 years of IT experience and over 10 titles to his credit.     How can I make Access work for me?

    Good book to look up questions about how to format reports, build sub-reports, and other questions that stump you when you are working with Access. This is not a book I would use if I was a first-time Access user, but it is a good reference when you encounter problems.

    Access 2007 Bible

    This book was disappointing. Most of the code samples are poorly written and full of errors. If the code examples worked I would rate this book higher, but only for a beginner. The book only scratched the surface and leaves you wanting for more information to complete a project.

    Wish I Could Return It

    I haven't done any Access development work in about 5 years and now am faced with having to build a fairly robust database application. I picked this book up thinking it would help me make the transition from the earlier version of Access I'm familiar with and to refresh my skills. What a huge mistake I made in buying this book. The CD doesn't match the book and there is no way to download a corrected set of examples. The book jumps back and forth between the database used on the CD (Access Auto Traders) and old MS Trade Wind database. Examples in the book do not match those on the CD. The printing is very small and and faint and difficult to read. I do not doubt the knowledge, skills, and research of the authors but this book appears to have been hastily written, not properly proofread, and certainly not tested on real readers. I've now made it through the first 5 chapters and am throwing it in the recycle bin and purchasing a different book. I only wish I had read reviews on this site and others before wasting my hard earned money. I won't make that mistake again.
