Overview

Access 2000 is an important part of the Office 2000 program suite, and will be available on both the Premium and Professional editions of Office 2000. Access has traditionally been the Office suite database program par excellence. It still remains that way, but with Office 2000 the face of Access is changing. This book will look at the traditional role of Access and its future uses in the Office suite. Using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), the user can program his or her own programs in what is essentially a subset of the Visual Basic programming languages. This is tremendously powerful, as it allows you to create great User Interfaces (forms etc), as a front end to actual database storage and manipulation. This continues to be one of the great strengths of programming Access VBA. This book updates, expands and improves Beginning Access 97 VBA Programming, in an Office 2000 setting. All the great tutorial content, teaching people how to program with VBA in Access will be there, but now majorly rewritten to take account of Office 2000.

    Good Beginner's Book

Good text for those just beginning Access 2000 user. However, little instruction offered on how to integrate VBA code modules into a single application, for example, how to use code to control form layout and data. You will need an additional book for advanced Access VBA application programming.

    Completely Understandable!

This book is GREAT. Once I started reading it, it was as if I were in a classroom setting. I found that as I was reading, if something seemed a little complicated or I had questions, if I kept reading they would answer the questions in the very next paragraph. I truly enjoyed the tutorials and found everything broken down in terms I could easily understand. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get the most out of Access 2000!

    Fantastic Tutorial

I've been teaching Access for several years and recommend this book in every class I teach... it is absolutely phenomenal. It's not designed to be a reference book - but if you're a beginning programmer looking for a book that will explain what you need to know to build great Access apps (including the whys and the concepts), this is the book for you!

    An Excellent Textbook

I recently taught a class at the local junior college using this book. I think it's a GREAT textbook. So did the students. It's clear, it's easy to follow. The examples follow a single project all the way through the book, so they actually make SENSE. Each thing builds on what you've already learned. Very solid work these authors have done.

    Excellent Text

It is a good book with a lot of concepts for experianced developers. If Access is the main database application you use and are experiance with, then this is the one!

Excellent Book for Experienced Access Power Users Who Want to Take the Next Step into VBA Programming

This book is an excellent book for experienced Access power users who want to take the next step in professional Access development. Concepts are laid out and explained very clearly and cogently in a tutorial fashion. The book is indeed intended to be used as a tutorial and not so much as a reference book. Once again, it is another excellent computer book from WROX. I also recommend that the reader also be familiar with Visual Basic, as this will speed up the learning curve. Readers who are not familiar with VB will have some difficulties.

I wouldn't recomend it for a reference book.

This book isn't the book for quick reference. You will have to read form the beginning of the book to the end before you really get what you need. Oops! I forgot to mention the index. The indexing are also poor.
