Carianne Bernadowski, PhD, is associate professor of elementary education in the Department of Education and Social Services at Robert Morris University, Pittsburgh, PA. She holds a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh, a master's degree in reading education from Slippery Rock University, and a bachelor's degree in journalism and communications/secondary education from Point Park University. Bernadowski's published works include Linworth's Teaching with Books that Heal: Authentic Literature and Literacy Strategies to Help Children Cope with Everyday Problems and Research-Based Reading Strategies in the Library for Adolescent Learners, both coauthored with Patricia Kolenick; and Libraries Unlimited's Teaching Historical Fiction with Ready-Made Literature Circles for Secondary Readers.
