    Well written, but tedious

For any computer science student studying database theory, this book is a good starting point. It gives a complete introduction to the subject of databases, primarily for beginners. Running the gamut from database theory to SQL, concepts are explained clearly and completely, with a minimum of confustion. Unfortunately, this book does have serious limitations. Most noticeably, this book is similar to a trip to the dentist. Both are necessary and productive, but both are also tedious, boring, and irritating to deal with. While this book covers it's material very well, it is tiring, tedious, boring, and very difficult to read for more than an hour. Another problem is that this edition is several years out of date, hence, many facts reviewed are now obsolete. Neverthless, the important concepts are still timely.
