Editorial Reviews
Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Kathleen E Kramer, MD (Stanford University)Description: There have been many advances in the field of pediatric dermatology in the five years since the previous edition of this book. Using descriptive photos, algorithms, and tables, this well-written update continues to be the most comprehensive guide to pediatric dermatology.
Purpose: The book sets out to cover most of the skin disorders of childhood and adolescence. While there is some overlap with adult dermatologic conditions, there are many diseases specific to the pediatric population, such as genetic disorders, or disorders which manifest differently in children than in adults, such as psoriasis, and an in-depth knowledge of these is necessary for both dermatologists and pediatricians.
Audience: It is written for any medical practitioner who sees children as patients. It is written at a level that both residents and seasoned practitioners can find accessible and useful. The authors are well known and respected experts in this field.
Features: The book is organized by disease category. Each is clearly addressed, complete, replete with useful photos of good quality, and with an online reference at the end of each chapter for further reading if required. The tables are useful for quick review, but are not particularly detailed.
Assessment: This is a must-have for anyone who sees children as patients. It is, hands down, the best written, most complete textbook on pediatric dermatology, and yet it is still easily accessible for quick review for newer physicians. Thanks are due to the authors for their hard work in bringing us this newest edition.
