It Matters Where You Are Coming From

If you are experienced with creating static pages in Dreamweaver and want to learn what would be involved in making dynamic web pages and what the different database choices are, this may be a good book for you. It is well written, but carries the the relatively high number of typos that most computer books have in this age of 'rush-to-market'. If, however, you are an experienced database and desktop developer who is trying to get a handle on how to move your database work to the web, the book has a lot of wasted values. As almost every chapter is careful to point out, the subject of the chapter cannot be adequately covered in just one chapter. While the general coverage of the various databases should be good for someone who does not have a lot of that experience, most of that coverage will be wasted on the databse developer. Still, there IS good information for the database developer. In retrospect though, as a database developer, I think I would have better spent my time reading a book that concentrated specifically on my preferred database system and how to integrate it with Dreamweaver. In re-reading the Publisher's Description and the Author's Introduction, both contain HINTS that the book should be primarily for Web developers rather than database developers. I feel that point should be clearly emphasized. It matters where you are coming from.
